Job Summary
The Package Room Attendant is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the community's package room, including receiving, logging, organizing, and securely storing resident deliveries. This role ensures packages are tracked accurately, residents are notified promptly, and packages are released only after proper identification is verified. The Package Room Attendant works closely with the front desk team and delivery carriers to keep package operations running smoothly, gives special attention to perishable items, and supports the community's move-in and move-out logistics by preparing the service elevator and loading dock as scheduled.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in package handling, mailroom operations, logistics, concierge, or customer service preferred.
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with package tracking/notification software (e.g., Building Link) or the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate package logging and inventory tracking.
- Ability to lift and carry packages up to 50 pounds and to operate hand trucks and loaded carts.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb stairs for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills for interacting with residents, delivery carriers, and team members.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, based on community operating hours.
- Accept, log, and track incoming package deliveries in Building Link (marking the apartment number on each), coordinating with delivery carriers and handling after-hours package transfers from the front desk.
- Organize, secure, and maintain the package room to ensure accurate inventory and efficient package retrieval.
- Notify residents of package arrivals, verify resident identification before releasing packages, and sign packages out in Building Link.
- Expedite delivery of perishable items (e.g., medications or food boxes) to the front desk for prompt resident pickup.
- Investigate and assist in resolving missing, delayed, or damaged package issues.
- Lock off the service elevator and open the loading dock in preparation for scheduled resident move-ins and move-outs.
- Retrieve and secure any packages left at the front desk after package room closing (8:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and 2:00 p.m. Saturday, or other designated timeframe).
- Work Environment: Work is performed primarily indoors within the package room and mailroom areas of the community, with periodic exposure to the loading dock, service elevator, and outdoor areas when accepting deliveries or supporting move-ins and move-outs. Noise levels are generally low to moderate but may increase during high-volume delivery periods or move activity. The employee may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and may be required to work beyond normal scheduled hours during peak delivery seasons or scheduled moves.
- Physical Demands: This position requires regular periods of physical activity throughout the shift, including standing and walking for extended periods; bending, reaching, kneeling, and climbing stairs; and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling packages and loaded carts weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to access and organize packages stored on shelving at varying heights and operate the service elevator, hand trucks, and other equipment used to move packages. The work requires the ability to speak clearly and to see and hear clearly, with or without correction, in order to communicate with residents, delivery carriers, and team members.
