Job description

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our technical staff in our Integrated Systems group in Santa Clarita, CA!
Santa Clarita is our center of excellence for hardware level system integration and advanced package design.
In this role, you will design and analyze complex mechanical and electromechanical systems, equipment and packaging using engineering expertise. Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provide design information to drafting for packaging documentation.

Salary Information: $ 94,700.00 - 126,300.00 per year

Your Challenge:
  • Conceptualize, Design, and Document Electronics Packaging Assemblies and mechanical components.
  • Provide High Quality Mechanical Engineering Product Design and Solutions to support defense electronics customers, working with a diverse cross-functional team.
  • Perform trade studies and market surveys in order to provide objective and subjective assessments on design approaches.
  • Collaborate with other Engineering Departments, Program, and Operations in order to facilitate design activity.
  • Interface with vendors in order to facilitate component and assembly delivery.
  • Participate in, and provide material for, Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews (PDR and CDR).
  • Design and generate prototypes.
  • Generate deliverable documentation.
  • Interface with internal and external customers IAW program need.
  • Assist with testing and product verification activities.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace or Mechanical, from an ABET Accredited Institution and a minimum of 7 years in Aerospace, Defense or a similarly regulated industry.
  • Experience with MCAD software. SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Must have thorough experience in Electronics Packaging, a minimum of 5 years.
  • Must have familiarity with CCA (Circuit Card Assembly) design and manufacturing.
  • Experience as a Lead Mechanical Engineer on a program, interfacing with IPT Team/PMO/Customer.
  • Must be Proficient in managing schedule and budget. EV training is a plus.
  • Experience dispositioning Non-Conforming products and providing appropriate solutions is a must.
  • Experience with Hands-On product support/troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Must have Experience with Engineering Analysis / Hand-Calculations (Thermal/Structural).
  • Comfortable presenting to customer at PDR, CDR, or other design-centric customer-facing meetings.
  • Must be familiar with what is required at PDR, CDR, Production, and all the phases and gating processes of a production program.
  • Must be experienced working with Customer Requirements.
  • Mentors and trains entry-level Mechanical Engineers.
  • Experience with Data Management/Configuration Control of Engineering Drawings and BOMs (PDM/PLM).
  • Experience with ASME Y14.100 and its associated standards (Y14.5, Y14.24, etc...)
  • Experience with ECAD software is a plus, Altium is preferred.
  • Experience with cable modeling and documentation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with DFM/DFA is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Rapid Prototyping practices (i.e. 3D Printing) is a plus.
