Senior Platform Engineer
Hybrid, requiring 2 days per week onsite in Newark, NJ
Job Profile Summary

The Senior Platform Engineer is integral to developing client middleware platforms and automations. This role involves architecting solutions, guiding junior engineers, and collaborating across teams to automate deployments. The Senior Platform Engineer utilizes the latest DevOps tools and services to create automation, reducing manual tasks and speeding up market delivery. Additionally, they document processes and procedures by writing SOPs while adhering to industry standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly available, resilient, and cost-effective platforms and middleware solutions.
• Lead automation initiatives using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps practices to enhance efficiency.
• Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for containerized applications.
• Engineer and support container platforms like RedHat OpenShift and other Kubernetes platforms (EKS/AKS/ECS).
• Implement and manage service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio) to improve traffic management and microservices security.
• Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting standards to ensure platform reliability and performance.
• Act as a subject matter expert for Middleware platforms, advising on architecture and best practices.
• Collaborate with security teams to integrate governance, security controls, and DevSecOps practices.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts and act as an escalation point for complex production issues.
• Install, configure, and maintain middleware platforms, Kubernetes clusters, and supporting infrastructure.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, promoting best practices and technical growth.
• Document architecture, operational procedures, and standard operating processes.
• Participate in technical discussions, contributing to architectural decisions and cross-functional collaboration.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements for platform performance and scalability.

Education & Experience

Education:

• Bachelor's degree required or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

Work Experience:

• 10 years of related IT work experience.
• Hands-on experience with RedHat OpenShift or similar Kubernetes/Container platforms.
• Experience in automating CI/CD pipelines for Kubernetes/Container platforms.
• Proficiency with Docker/Podman, Git, Jenkins, and other CI/CD tools.
• Experience with Istio Service Mesh or similar technologies for microservices security.
• Knowledge of DevSecOps concepts and tools is necessary.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, especially Terraform.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure cloud platforms.
• Experience with IBM Event Streams or IBM App Connect Enterprise is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of AWS Foundational Services like ECS, EC2, IAM, and VPCs.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell scripting, Python, or PowerShell.
• Experience with IBM CloudPak products is a plus.
• Middleware experience with IBM WebSphere products is a plus.
• Knowledge of distributed operating systems like Linux, Windows, or AIX.
• Understanding of load balancers, DNS resolutions, and network troubleshooting related to Middleware technologies.
