Job Description
Location: Detroit, MI
Koil is a Detroit-based steel service center that processes and distributes various flat rolled metal products. Koil is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs and has an immediate opportunity for a General Laborer on Day Shift at our operation in Detroit. The General Laborer is responsible for the processing of scrap metals using various tools and equipment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate uncoiler and recoiler controls and arms and other slitter related equipment.
  • Assist operator on operation of slitter and packaging equipment.
  • Properly tag customer size on cuts and package according to written and verbal instruction.
  • Follow all safety procedures while operating and assisting on equipment. i.e. coil cart, banding tools, overhead cranes, forklifts.
  • Assist where needed when slitter is not running.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping in work area.
  • Must follow all safety protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Must have strong mechanical ability and aptitude with some relevant experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate basic hydraulic and electrical controls.
  • Must be able to perform basic math and understand decimal and fraction conversions.
  • Ability to understand and perform trained quality of material and work per specifications.
  • Ability to run an overhead crane or competence for training.
  • Ability to operate a forklift or competence for training.
  • Ability to understand how to run all banding equipment.
  • Ability to produce quality products within a reasonable time frame.
  • Ability to understand work order instructions and perform work required.
  • Able to be standing for the entirety of work time.
  • Able to lift 50 pound continually throughout shift.
  • Able to work in hot/cold, dusty/dirty environments.
