Our Tax team's mission, is to modernise a traditional tax cost center into "Tax-as-a-Partner" to 'protect and serve' the business, the needs of our employees, our investors, global Government and Tax Authorities where we operate, and ultimately the users of Canva's amazing product.

What you'll be doing in this role
We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced US Sales & Use Tax Manager to join our dynamic team. You'll have a strong background in indirect tax compliance, accounting for indirect taxes, preparing commercially focused indirect tax advice, an aptitude for project management and a passion for capitalizing on technology and automation.
The ideal candidate will have experience in both private and public companies. You will be hands-on, responsible for managing the day-to-day indirect tax operations of the company in the US, ensuring compliance, transparency and accuracy. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our processes and policies support the scale and complexity of a rapidly-expanding company.
At the moment, the role is focused on:
  • Ensuring that Canva meets all its indirect tax compliance obligations in the US, including sales and use, gross receipts, commercial activity and business personal property taxes
  • Delivering global accounting and reporting of indirect taxes for financial statement purposes, including reconciling and supporting any provision balances
  • Collaborating with other teams to attend to all month / quarter / year end reporting obligations in a time-sensitive environment
  • Establishing and driving and continuous improvement of internal controls, including preparing process documentation to support audit and public company readiness
  • State and local indirect tax audit and voluntary disclosure management, including coordinating with external advisors when appropriate
  • Regularly monitoring tax law developments for US impact and taking action when needed
  • Continuously monitoring feedback from our customers and internal stakeholders to identify ways to improve experience, including developing content and responding to inquiries from our internal and external help desks
  • Diving into complex US indirect tax technical matters, finding solutions for critical business needs and drafting position papers
  • Supporting the implementation of indirect tax strategies that align with business objectives
  • Taking your continuous learning style to the next level as you plunge into the ever changing indirect tax developments around the world to help identify and address impacts to Canva.

You're probably a match if you have:
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive critical projects to completion
  • An eye for detail, with excellent analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills
  • Proven experience in US sales and use tax compliance, technical advisory and driving strategies from MVP to high fidelity solutions
  • The ability to work independently to develop and drive projects and compliance to completion as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Implemented AI into your day-to-day ways of working in your current role and are already thinking about new ways that AI can amplify your impact
  • Proficiency in financial softwares and systems; experience with tax engines and other tax tooling, including but not limited to tax exemption management, compliance software and research platforms would be a valued asset!
