Job description

Job Title: GCP Cloud Engineer
Engagement Length: 6-8 weeks (with possible extension or full time conversion)
Work Type: 100% Remote
Role Type: Individual Contributor / Execution-Focused
Tech Stack: Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Terraform, IAM, Networking, Logging/Monitoring
W2 candidates only preferred
US Citizen or Green Card Holders only preferred
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on GCP Cloud Engineer to support a short-term engagement focused on remediating, cleaning up, and standardizing an existing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment.
This role is not responsible for architecture, strategy, or high-level design. Instead, you will execute engineering tasks identified and prioritized by an incumbent GCP Cloud Architect and Cloud Practice Lead, helping implement remediation actions, infrastructure changes, and platform improvements aligned to defined standards and best practices.
If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, executing Terraform, fixing misconfigurations, and operationalizing architectural guidance, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
The GCP Cloud Engineer will be responsible for implementation and execution, including:
GCP Environment Remediation & Cleanup
  • Execute remediation tasks identified in the GCP gap analysis (e.g., IAM, networking, storage, logging, monitoring)
  • Implement changes to bring environments into alignment with GCP best practices and defined platform standards
  • Remediate deviations from approved architecture and governance standards

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Execution
  • Implement and update Terraform modules and templates for foundational GCP resources, including:
    • VPCs, subnets, firewall rules
    • IAM roles, service accounts, and policies
    • Logging, monitoring, and alerting
    • Compute and managed services (as directed)
  • Apply Terraform changes safely across environments following change guidance

Platform & Operational Support
  • Support implementation of platform standards across environment lifecycle (setup, consumption, security)
  • Assist with landing zone implementations and baseline infrastructure (when applicable)
  • Work closely with Architect and Practice Lead to execute defined tasks and priorities

Collaboration & Documentation Support
  • Provide implementation feedback to architecture and leadership team
  • Update or contribute to technical documentation related to implemented changes (lightweight, execution-focused)

Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including:
    • IAM (roles, service accounts, org/folder/project policies)
    • VPC networking (subnets, routing, firewall rules)
    • Logging, monitoring, and alerting (Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring)
    • Core GCP services (Compute Engine, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, etc.)
  • Proven experience using Terraform for GCP infrastructure
  • Ability to interpret architecture guidance and translate it into working infrastructure
  • Experience remediating existing environments (not just greenfield builds)

Professional Skills
  • Comfortable working from defined tasks and architectural direction
  • Execution-oriented, detail-driven, and pragmatic
  • Able to work independently and deliver quickly in a short-term engagement
  • Clear communicator with the ability to raise risks, blockers, and dependencies early

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)
  • Experience supporting GCP landing zones
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for Terraform deployment
  • Familiarity with enterprise cloud governance models
