Job Summary

Our Client is seeking an Associate Attorney to join their New York litigation practice with a focus on New York Labor Law and construction site defense. This attorney will manage litigation files from inception through resolution, appear in New York courts, and work closely with partners on construction accident and workplace injury matters defended on behalf of property owners, general contractors, insurance carriers, and municipalities.

This is a hybrid role. The candidate must live within commutable distance of the New York courts in which the firm appears.

Responsibilities
  • Defend construction site accident and workplace injury matters, including claims brought under New York Labor Law 240(1), 241(6), and 200.
  • Manage litigation files independently from inception through resolution, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, and court appearances.
  • Appear in New York state courts for conferences, oral argument, mediation, arbitration, and settlement conferences.
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, and court filings with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Maintain strong, consistent communication with clients and claims professionals.
  • Accurately track billable hours and ensure proper invoicing.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Must be currently admitted and in good standing in New York.
  • Three to five years of litigation practice.
  • Substantial New York Labor Law and construction defense experience as a core part of the practice, not incidental exposure.
  • Located within commutable distance of the New York courts for regular in-person appearances.
Required Skills
  • Working knowledge of New York Labor Law 240(1), 241(6), and 200, and the defenses available to owners and general contractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a high-volume caseload with autonomy.
  • Experience appearing for mediation, arbitration, and settlement conferences.
  • Deposition experience with plaintiffs, site witnesses, and safety personnel.
  • Proficiency in drafting and reviewing pleadings, motions, and court filings.
