Job description

Qualifications:

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Education:
GL-07: One full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement.
GL-09: Master’s degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.D or J.D., if related.
NOTE: Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
OR
Experience:
GL-07 and GL-09: One year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
GL-07:

  • Experience in the technical aspects of security and locking systems.
  • Experience in the use of emergency cutting tools, electric drills and several kinds of hand tools.
  • Experience in access controls, physical protection devices, monitoring equipment, security forces, and remote alarm equipment.

GL-09:

  • Experience maintaining various types of firearms and weapons, to include conducting technical inspections, tests, and making repairs.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining various types of locks and locking systems used in a correctional or similar secure facility.
  • Experience in the use of emergency entry equipment, riot control equipment, chemical munitions, and other types of emergency response equipment, to include ensuring such equipment is in good operational condition.

Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform the major duties of this position as described above.
If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

Superior Academic Achievement. (S.A.A.) applicants MUST provide a transcript in order to be considered under S.A.A. 

S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.

  1. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
  2. Grade-point average (G.P.A.) -- Applicants must have a grade-point average of:
    • 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or
    • 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
  3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies

In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.
