Software Systems Engineer (Senior/Lead)

The Boeing Company is looking for multiple Software Systems Engineers (Senior / Lead) to join the Ground Software Engineering team located in El Segundo, CA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Satellite Systems Software Engineering organization.

Our team creates the software tools and services for the world's highest performing satellite/ground systems for USG and Commercial customers. We work with space customers in the development of the next generation ground systems.

This is an opportunity to work in a rapid development environment using modern technology, architecture, and tools. Our team works within an agile methodology using a CI/CD environment; integrated with automated testing, vulnerability, & quality scanning capabilities. Your skills and interests will be matched to available roles within the program IPT inclusive of Product Owner and Team Lead.

This senior position requires proven experience within the software ecosystem, a unique background of project experience, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and capabilities. Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required!

Position Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain requirements, architecture, algorithms, interfaces, and design for high-performance Command and Control (C2) software solutions.
Lead software development activities in the scaled agile methodology utilizing a DevSecOps environment. Supporting software development activities and integrating completed software components into a fully functional software system.
Support progress demonstration presentations to customer representatives and program/IPT leadership.
Perform day-to-day activities in the areas of Product Owner/Technical Leadership, Architecture, Design and Direction of software product(s)

Support IPT by implementing a structured approach to defining and meeting a development and integration schedule alongside a rigorously managed cost baseline.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):


Bachelor's Degree

Requires the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance (interim prestart, final post-start)
5+ years of experience with systems engineering or software development on space-based or ground-based systems
3+ years of experience leading software development projects

3+ years of experience with software development using either Java, C++, or Python
Experience with Flight Dynamics / Orbital Analysis or Satellite Management Systems or Ground control management

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 9+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 13+ years of directly related work experience OR 17+ years of related, relevant experience

Level 5: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 18+ years of directly related work experience OR 22+ years of related, relevant experience

Experience as a Product Owner/Technical Lead
Experience with database technologies (SQL/NoSQL), messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, ActiveMQ), and data streaming technologies (e.g., CCSDS).
Familiarity with containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration platforms.
Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to automate testing, builds, and deployment workflows.
Experience with various formal acceptance testing activities (e.g., Formal Qualification Test -FQT, Factory Acceptance Test - FAT, Site Acceptance Test - SAT)
Active TS/SCI or DoD Top Secret clearance
