Field Research Assistant
Bayer Crop Science is a leading provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity. Our research facility in Guelph, Ontario, is seeking several innovative and team-oriented individuals to join their Research Team as Field Assistants for a 2.5 month term starting mid September and ending in November with possibility of extension.
Selected individuals may have the opportunity to assist with the Soybean and Corn Research Program with the following various tasks:
• May operate a combine harvester along with associated harvester activities on site and at offsite locations in SW Ontario
• Operations related to field trials such note taking, thresher and manual harvesting of soybean and corn research plots and nurseries
• Computer related activities and provide support for testing activities
• Threshing, seed quality, evaluation and seed cleaning
• Seed preparation for winter nurseries
• Offsite travel during the harvest season will be highly possible
• May operate farm equipment such as a tractor, combine or thresher
• Participate in all Safety training and follow Safety policies
• Participate in QMS training and assist team to maintain Quality Standards
This is a great opportunity to get some hands-on industry experience in both commercial soybean and corn research programs.
Required Skills/Experience:
• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as required
• Ability to work effectively with teams or independently and to take daily direction from supervisors/managers
• Ability to work outdoors in various environmental conditions
• Activities will require bending and lifting, long periods of sitting or standing
• Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
• Experience utilizing MS Word and MS Excel
Desired Skills/Experience:
• Field Research experience
• Knowledge in agriculture, understanding of farm equipment operation
• Class G drivers license is an asset, but not a requirement
