Baumer Medical Jobs Information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Palliative Care Physician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Palliative Care Physician, you need a medical degree, board certification in internal medicine or family medicine, and specialized training or fellowship in palliative medicine. Familiarity with symptom management protocols, electronic health records (EHRs), and pain management tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, empathy, and interdisciplinary teamwork skills help in supporting patients and their families through complex and sensitive situations. These skills are vital for delivering compassionate, holistic care that improves quality of life for patients facing serious illness.

What are some common challenges faced by palliative care physicians in coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams?

Palliative care physicians often collaborate with a diverse team—including nurses, social workers, chaplains, and specialists—to provide holistic patient care. One common challenge is ensuring clear and consistent communication among all team members, especially when treatment goals or patient needs change. Balancing differing opinions and priorities from various disciplines can also require strong negotiation and leadership skills. Additionally, palliative care physicians may need to educate other providers about the philosophy and benefits of palliative care, which is crucial for fostering a supportive and cohesive care environment.

What are Palliative Care Physicians?

Palliative Care Physicians are medical doctors who specialize in providing care to patients with serious, life-limiting illnesses. Their primary goal is to improve the quality of life for both patients and their families by addressing physical symptoms, emotional needs, and spiritual concerns. They work as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage pain, alleviate distressing symptoms, and support patients in making informed decisions about their care. Palliative care can be provided alongside curative treatments or as the main focus of care, depending on the patient’s needs.

Job description

We are an established medical practice serving Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Columbus, and the surrounding area performing evaluations on patients with swallowing disorders. Presently we are in need of additional physicians to join our group. Both full-time and part time and positions are available. All doctors with various experiences are encouraged to apply. During training you will be compensated.

The practice is part of a network which has sister practices in New England and Texas.

Briefly, benefits and annual income for working 4 to 5 days a week will be approximately $160,000 to $225,000 or more depending on volume. Health coverage, a 401k retirement plan, and educational stipend are available. There is no weekends or night call and malpractice coverage (including tail) is paid for by the practice. In over 400,000 evaluations in a 19 year period we have not had one malpractice inquiry or action.

Midwest Dysphagia Consultants mission is to provide professional dysphagia consultations including modified barium swallows for patients who have swallowing difficulties. The consultations are delivered utilizing a mobile unit pictured on our website.

Various facilities, private offices, and homebound patients have physicians and speech language pathologists who request swallowing studies from a mobile office such as ours. These requests are routed through our office staff and scheduled 95% of the time within 24 to 72 hours of receiving the request. If possible, they are scheduled the same day depending on daily volume and location. We want to make sure our staff is home between 4:00 and 5:00 PM every day.
