    Position Snapshot

    Atwell is hiring a mid-level Mechanical Project Engineer (PE) to support oil & natural gas, CO₂, hydrogen, and RNG pipeline and facility projects. This role focuses on mechanical design and project execution for large pipeline systems and facilities (meter stations, compressor stations, terminals, valve sites, pigging facilities). You'll work from concept through construction/commissioning, coordinating across disciplines to deliver safe, compliant, and constructible solutions.

    Essential Functions

    • Lead and support project teams on assigned tasks; provide technical guidance and implement client-requested design changes.
    • Interface with clients, EPCs, vendors, and regulators; communicate scope, progress, risks, and design decisions.
    • Coordinate with civil/structural/electrical/instrumentation/process teams to ensure integrated, constructible designs.
    • Mentor junior engineers/designers; contribute to mechanical best practices, standards, and QA/QC.
    • Travel to offices, vendor facilities, and jobsites as needed.

    Education / Credentials

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (or ability to obtain promptly per state requirements).

    Day to Day

    • Serve as the mechanical engineering lead or key contributor for pipeline and facility projects, including:
      • Meter & regulator (M&R) stations, valve sites, pig launcher/receiver sites
      • Compressor stations and station tie-ins
      • Terminals, pump stations, and related facility upgrades/expansions
    • Develop and own mechanical deliverables such as:
      • Mechanical basis-of-design, design criteria, and equipment/system selections
      • P&IDs, PFDs, line lists, and mechanical specifications (in coordination with process)
      • Equipment data sheets and procurement packages (valves, meters, regulators, filters/separators, pumps, compressors packages interface, pigging components, heaters, coolers, heat exchangers)
      • Piping isometrics, piping plans, tie-in packages, and installation details
    • Perform/oversee engineering calculations and technical evaluations, including:
      • Pressure design and code compliance
      • Relief device sizing / overpressure protection support and coordination
      • Hydraulic/line sizing coordination, equipment sizing support, and operating case reviews
    • Support facility layout and integration:
      • 3D model/design review participation as applicable; resolve clashes and support constructability
      • Coordinate with structural/civil for foundation loads, pipe rack interfaces, and equipment anchorage

    Preferred Tools & Experience

    • Strong experience with piping design, facility mechanical systems, and field execution support.
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office; exposure to 3D tools (Plant 3D, CADWorx, AVEVA, or similar) is a plus.
    • Consulting/EPC experience and comfort working to owner/operator standards.
    • Experience supporting projects in operating facilities

    Pay Range - $90,000 - $145,000 base + end of year bonus.
