Job Description
AECOM is seeking a PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER - CIVIL HIGHWAY DESIGN to be based in either the Conshohocken, PA or Philadelphia, PA office. This is a HYBRID position and additional office locations may be considered. In this role, you will provide technical leadership to teams working on medium to large scale transportation projects in the Greater Pennsylvania Area.

The Civil Highway Design Technical Lead candidate will delegate tasks to less experienced engineers and provide technical guidance and support to those individuals. As a professional engineer licensed in Pennsylvania, they will use prior experience with publications, manuals, and processes considered standard to PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, City of Philadelphia, and/or SEPTA.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop design criteria, horizontal and vertical alignments, superelevation, barrier/guiderail design, and spot elevation details
  • Develop rigid and flexible pavement designs
  • Prepare signing and pavement marking plans and details
  • Prepare construction phasing plans and develop maintenance of traffic based on interdisciplinary coordination and constructability reviews
  • Identify utility conflicts and coordinate resolutions based on interdisciplinary constructability reviews, client feedback, and utility needs
  • Develop construction specifications, quantities, and cost estimates
  • Implement 3D CADD modeling techniques
  • Develop technical reports, tables, and graphics per client and/or internal AECOM standards
  • Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures
  • Complete interdisciplinary technical reviews
  • Contribute to internal project-related staffing decisions to facilitate meeting client schedule, scope, and budget
  • Develop project design schedules for submissions and internal milestones in coordination with project manager
  • Prepare presentations that explain technical findings, recommendations, and limitations
  • Work collaboratively as part of a larger design team to proactively meet the client's scope, budget, and schedule through ethical and responsible decision making
  • Provide support to AECOM project managers and department managers
  • Contribute to the development of technical scope and price proposals

  • Adopts new perspectives and views to approach work and accommodate to change
  • Conveys complex or sensitive information, topics, and concepts with internal and external stakeholders
  • Persuades others to consider various options
  • Possesses strong technical skills acquired through advanced training, study and experience
  • Provides structured guidance and training to develop team capabilities
  • Actively participates in professional or industry organizations as a committee member

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus six (6) years of related experience with highway transportation projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Design experience working on projects for PennDOT, PA Turnpike, SEPTA, and/or City of Philadelphia
  • Valid US Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10 years or more in roadway/highway design
  • Familiarity with OpenRoads, SignCAD or GuideSign, and AutoTURN software programs
  • Design experience working on projects for Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) and/or Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC)
  • Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work environment with hybrid teams
  • Ability to utilize spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software
  • Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff
