Job description

Position Summary

The Pilates Reformer Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and engaging reformer-based Pilates classes for YMCA members. This position supports the YMCA of South Alabama's mission by promoting healthy living and fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants.

Essential Functions
  • Lead Pilates Reformer classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines and industry standards
  • Instruct participants on proper form, alignment, and breathing techniques
  • Provide modifications and progressions to accommodate varying fitness levels and abilities
  • Ensure safe setup, operation, and cleaning of all reformer equipment
  • Monitor participants during class to ensure safety and provide appropriate feedback
  • Respond to injuries and incidents in accordance with YMCA risk management procedures
  • Build positive relationships with members to enhance engagement and retention
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records as required
  • Follow all YMCA of South Alabama policies, procedures, and emergency protocols
  • Promote YMCA programs and encourage member participation in wellness offeringsSchedule Requirements
  • Part-time position; hours based on class schedule and member demand
  • Availability may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends

  • Current nationally recognized Pilates Reformer certification (e.g., Balanced Body, STOTT, Peak Pilates, or equivalent)
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Prior experience teaching Pilates Reformer classes preferred
  • Knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and injury prevention principles
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skillsWork Environment
  • Indoor wellness facility and/or Pilates studio
  • Moderate noise level typical of a fitness environment
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts (fitness equipment)

  • Physical Demands
  • Ability to demonstrate and lead physical exercises for extended periods
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stretch, and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to visually and physically monitor participants' technique and safety
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies.

      • Maintenance employees and volunteers-ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.
      • Front desk personnel-ensure consumers are properly signed in and signed out, ensures only authorized adults are allowed inthe facility, etc.
    Supervisorsandadministratorswill:
    • Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
    • Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
    • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
    • Requireemployeesandvolunteerstoadheretopoliciesandproceduresrelatedto abuse risk.
    Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using theorganization'sprogressivedisciplinaryprocedures.
    • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriatebehaviors.
    • Followmandatedreportingrequirements.
    • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization's commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.
    • Reportessentialabuseriskmanagementinformationtotheboardofdirectors.
