The primary purpose of this position is to develop exciting new products for the roof window, skylight, and sun tunnel markets; and to improve existing products related to market desires, quality, delivery, and cost.
The Product Developer position is responsible for providing technical and engineering support services. This support may include, but is not limited to, new product development/product follow-up and production monitoring on a regular basis. This position may also require significant participation in design activities including market research, product scoping, concept ideation, and design.
In the course of their work, product developers must consider:
• who will buy the product and how they will use it,
• how to make the product easy and safe to use,
• how to make the product visually attractive to the target audience,
• what materials to use,
• how to make the product reliable, and
• how to make the product cost-effective and environmentally friendly to produce.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Collaborate with internal teams and market partners to clarify design requirements and align project scope and planning.
  • Conduct engineering analyses such as tolerance stack-ups, material selection, stress calculations, and basic FEA.
  • Support prototyping activities, including CAD and assembly of test units to create display concepts or working models.
  • Participate in product testing, validation, and documentation of results.
  • Assist in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement activities for existing products.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and production-ready
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.

Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Works closely with sales and marketing, procurement, quality, designers, model makers, testing, and other skilled staff.
  • Produce reports and present ideas to colleagues at various stages of the design process.
  • Work within budgets and deadlines to meet project goals.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by local management.

Starting Monthly Salary: $7,000 - $9,200 Compensation is based on the skills and experience of the individual.
Qualifications:
-A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
-Applied experience in product development is preferred.
-Understands current and potential technologies and production processes of materials (such as wood, glass, metals and plastics)
-A product developer should:
• be creative with an eye for form, fit, and function,
• understand different materials and production methods,
• have technical, practical and scientific knowledge and ability
• work well in a team,
• be persuasive and able to 'sell' their ideas to others,
• be able to use drawings, 3D models and computer designs to express creative ideas,
• have strong IT skills,
• be good at planning and organizing,
• be good at explaining ideas to people with varying levels of technical knowledge,
• have listening and questioning skills for discussing design briefs and understanding feedback from colleagues, and
• be an independent self-starter who is capable of functioning in a team environment.
-It is important to:
• be interested in the way people choose and use products,
• have an interest in how things look and work,
• enjoy problem solving, and
• present a positive and professional appearance and image.
