Job Title: Security Installation Technician

Job Description

The Security Installation Technician installs, services, and maintains integrated security and low-voltage systems for commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, and government facilities. This role suits a self-motivated professional with strong technical troubleshooting abilities and hands-on experience with access control, CCTV/IP video, intrusion alarms, and structured cabling systems. You will work closely with project teams and customers to deliver reliable, code-compliant security solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, fiber optic, and security wiring.
  • Install and configure commercial security systems such as access control, CCTV/IP video surveillance, intrusion detection/burglar alarm systems, and intercom/communication systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, floor plans, and project specifications to plan and execute installations accurately.
  • Mount and install cameras, card readers, door contacts, motion detectors, control panels, and networking equipment in accordance with project requirements.
  • Perform system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure proper operation and compliance with standards.
  • Diagnose and repair system issues in the field to restore functionality and minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate daily activities with project managers, customers, electricians, and other trades to keep projects on schedule.
  • Complete service reports, documentation, and as-built drawings accurately and on time.
  • Ensure all work complies with company standards, industry best practices, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies.
  • Provide professional customer service and clear communication to end users and stakeholders.
  • Support project coordination efforts, including material needs, timelines, and site readiness.
  • Work both independently and as part of a 2–6 person crew to complete installations and service assignments.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience installing commercial low-voltage or security systems.
  • Hands-on experience with access control systems, CCTV/IP camera systems, intrusion alarm systems, and network-connected security systems.
  • Proficiency with low-voltage wiring methods, cable termination, labeling, and testing procedures.
  • Ability to install, configure, and commission access control, CCTV/IP video surveillance, intrusion detection, and intercom/communication systems.
  • Experience with structured cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, and security wiring.
  • Experience with fiber optics, including installation and testing.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, cable testers, and network testing equipment safely and effectively.

Work Environment

This role is primarily field-based, working indoors on government, commercial, and industrial projects across regional locations. You will typically work as part of a 2–6 person crew in a team-oriented setting that emphasizes family-first values, teamwork, and strong customer service. The environment involves active construction and operational facilities where safety, professionalism, and coordination with other trades are essential. Standard hours are generally 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with some variation depending on project requirements and an average of about five hours of overtime per week. The dress code is work-casual, including jeans or khakis, company-provided work t-shirts, and composite toe boots or shoes. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, cable testers, and network testing equipment while adhering to OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $35.00/hr.
