Job description

Ensures the availability and safeguarding of materials needed for safe and reliable refinery operations. Receives and issues materials, and handles logistics, inspections, cycle counts, and inventory adjustments. The position may also include monitoring SAP inventory levels performing MRP process for ordering, purchasing, repairing or replacement of stock items within the limits of established SAP Roles and Responsibilities. Position may also assist other staff and provide non-administrative backup for supervisor as necessary.  

  • Handles counter issues and distribution of warehouse items in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
  • Unloads/Loads vendor, freight, and company vehicles using material handling equipment.
  • Receives incoming stock materials into the warehouse, performs inspection for damaged materials, stocks shelves, and ships outgoing materials.
  • Creates a goods receipt (GR) within 2 business days after materials are received to allow SAP to alert the requisitioner.
  • Safely stores material in designated warehouse locations to allow for quick retrieval when needed.
  • Provides support for resolving invoicing issues (GR, quantity differences, prices, etc.) through the SAP system processing.
  • Provides backup support as needed, and assists with the MRP reporting process, which includes monitoring SAP inventory levels for re-ordering of stock items within the limits of established SAP Roles & Responsibilities, and setting up new inventory requests into the SAP system.
  • Prepares hazardous/non-hazardous materials for shipping in accordance with established safety & environmental guidelines.
  • Provides support as needed to Refinery Operations, Maintenance, Turnaround, Capital, Strategic Sourcing, Accounting, Contractors, Vendors, and other business partners.
  • Assists with monitoring & managing surplus & direct buy inventory, through the support of internal warehouse logs, spreadsheets, or other reporting tools.
  • Notifies departments on a regular basis about discrepancies and locations of materials verbally, by written report, email, or other communication.
  • Interfaces with non-inventory items such as chemicals, catalyst, lube oils, and direct charge material - to load, store, receive, monitor, etc.
  • Performs physical inventory cycle counts as required.
  • Monitors Free Stores non-stock inventory levels and initiates reorders with third party vendor.
  • Delivers warehouse stock and chemicals within the refinery as needed.
  • Maintains the appearance & safe work environment of warehouse work areas and equipment, through good housekeeping, organization, and routine safety inspections.
  • Adheres to all safety rules and procedures as established by the Company.
  • Maintains filing system for all warehouse records associated with receiving, issues, returns, and shipping.
  • Prepares to work long hours, shift work, or nights as needed, during turnarounds, outages, and other special projects.
  • Works and contributes as a team member to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Performs other related warehouse functions as assigned by supervisor.

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a refinery warehouse environment, material handling, and inventory control is required.
  • Experience in PC driven, location-based Materials Management System is required.
  • SAP experience is required. 
  • 5 years of experience with warehouse, material handling, and inventory control is preferred.  
  • Forklift certification required.
  • Shipping of Hazardous/Non-hazardous materials - (DOT Hazmat) certification required. 
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Houston Refinery, required.
