Location: East TexasAbout the Opportunity

A 161-bed acute care hospital in East Texas is seeking a Director of Pharmacy Services to lead and oversee pharmacy operations across the organization. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy leader who brings strong operational oversight, regulatory awareness, and a collaborative approach to supporting safe, effective medication management in the hospital setting.

This role is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of pharmacy services, including medication preparation and dispensing oversight, pharmaceutical purchasing, inventory management, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary communication with nursing staff, physicians, and hospital leadership. The position also includes Pharmacist-in-Charge responsibility for applicable pharmacy operations, including support of designated offsite emergency or imaging-related services as needed.

Position Summary

The Director of Pharmacy Services provides leadership for hospital pharmacy operations and helps ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical services throughout the organization. This leader oversees medication preparation and dispensing processes, supports patient-specific medication regimen entry in the pharmacy system, manages pharmaceutical procurement and stock levels, and serves as a key pharmacy resource to clinical and administrative partners.

The ideal candidate is operationally strong, detail-oriented, knowledgeable of Texas pharmacy requirements, and comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on departmental oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the overall operation of the hospital pharmacy
  • Supervise the preparation and dispensing of medications
  • Review and check all medications dispensed from the pharmacy
  • Enter and maintain drug information within the pharmacy system to support patient medication regimens
  • Purchase pharmaceuticals and maintain appropriate stock levels for the pharmacy and ancillary departments
  • Ensure the safe procurement, storage, distribution, and dispensing of medications and drug products
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff and physicians to support quality patient care
  • Provide pharmacy oversight for applicable offsite emergency and imaging-related operations
  • Serve in Pharmacist-in-Charge capacity as required for designated pharmacy operations
  • Support regulatory compliance, medication safety standards, and pharmacy best practices
Ideal Background
  • At least 1 year of hospital pharmacy leadership experience
  • Experience overseeing pharmacy operations in an acute care or hospital-based environment
  • Strong understanding of medication safety, dispensing accuracy, inventory management, and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Familiarity with pharmacy regulatory requirements and operational accountability in Texas
  • Leadership presence with the ability to work effectively across clinical and administrative teams
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
  • Active Texas Board of Pharmacy licensure
  • Ability to fulfill Pharmacist-in-Charge responsibilities in accordance with Texas pharmacy regulations
  • Certification in aseptic technique within 1 year of employment
