Job description

The Director of Engineering oversees multiple teams while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. The Director of Engineering is responsible for technical, professional, and departmental leadership and participates in establishing goals and procedures for the department, ensuring quality, efficiencies, and consistency. Involved in client nurturing, developing client relationships, generating leads and selling projects. Develop full scope design strategies to meet clients’ needs. Assists with hiring department staff. Promotes and contributes to mentoring staff to become well rounded Engineers. Is a member of the firm’s management and leadership team and as such has a voice in the firm’s operational, marketing, finance, and personnel decisions.

Core Responsibilities
  • Supervises engineering teams across mechanical and electrical disciplines. Reviews with Department Managers when appropriate all salary changes, position changes, staff hiring and termination
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement engineering strategies.
  • Optimize processes to enhance operational efficiency while adapting to evolving industry demands.
  • Oversight of complex projects, ensuring they meet technical standards, safety regulations, and organizational goals.
  • Manages departmental challenges, from operational to performance issues, while overseeing project budgets and resource planning.
  • Stays current with emerging engineering trends to drive innovation and deliver high-impact solutions across diverse projects.
  • Works with other departments such as marketing, finance, civil and architecture to integrate engineering efforts into broader company strategies.
  • Lead design work of departments from review of mechanical, electrical and plumbing design and documentation for completeness, accuracy, compliance with jurisdiction requirements, client requirements, company standards, constructability, and coordination with other professionals assuming responsibility of the design through completion. The Director of Engineering shall seal all documents or ensure that all MEP documents are sealed by a registrant.
  • Is actively involved in the processes of all projects in the department.
  • Coordinates all department duties along with Director of Architecture, Director of Civil, Project Managers and Human Resources.
  • Responsible for all QA/QC producers of projects and departmental standards.
  • Responsible for establishing, revising, and maintaining departmental standards that are required to be followed along with any specific client criteria.
  • Mentoring of junior and new staff towards progression both professionally and within firm.
  • Ability to collaborate and develop positive solutions with Leadership and Directors.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS Engineering- Mechanical or Electrical; master’s preferred.
  • Professional Registration in Arizona (or ability to obtain it within 6 months).
  • 15 years of relevant experience; including 5 years at the Engineering management level across multiple engineering disciplines.
