The ideal candidate will harness their expertise in social work to drive recovery and rehabilitation for individuals struggling with substance use and associated mental health challenges.

About the Organization

Unity Support Services is committed to empowering vulnerable populations through comprehensive support, advocacy, and access to essential resources. Located in Oakland, California, we pride ourselves on a person-centered approach, a strong collaboration with community partners, and a steadfast commitment to social justice. Our organization specializes in providing a range of social services, including case management, counseling, crisis intervention, and community outreach, focusing on addressing pressing social issues such as homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse, and poverty.

Work Environment

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Unity Support Services, you will work in a remote setting primarily from the comfort of your own home, utilizing advanced telehealth platforms to connect with clients. The role requires flexibility as it may involve occasional evening and weekend hours to accommodate client needs and program activities. Our diverse team operates in a supportive and collaborative culture, utilizing technology to maintain strong communication and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth assessments to identify the social, emotional, and environmental challenges faced by clients, particularly those in detoxification.
  • Develop personalized service plans that establish clear goals, interventions, and mechanisms for progress monitoring.
  • Provide individual and family counseling, facilitating conversations designed to aid recovery from substance use disorders.
  • Engage clients in personalized service plans, building upon their strengths and connecting them with community resources tailored to their needs.
  • Offer crisis intervention services, including risk assessment and safety planning, ensuring immediate care for clients in distress.
  • Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to coordinate necessary services and advocate effectively for clients’ needs.
  • Participate in community outreach initiatives to promote agency services and foster awareness about the challenges surrounding substance abuse.
  • Contribute to case conferences, engage in regular team meetings, and participate in ongoing staff training to enhance service delivery.
Patient Population / Client Focus

In this role, you will be providing support primarily to individuals entering our detox center, often experiencing substantial barriers due to their substance use disorders. Clients may also be dealing with co-occurring mental health issues, homelessness, and trauma-related crises. Your expertise will play a vital role in their recovery journey, fostering empowerment, self-advocacy, and long-term success.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited institution is required.
  • Active state licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is essential.
  • Strong foundation in trauma-informed care and an understanding of the societal impacts of substance use.
  • Cultural competence and effective communication skills are critical to building trust with a diverse client base.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience working in a social service agency or health care setting, specifically dealing with individuals facing addiction and mental health concerns, is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of local resources available for clients navigating the complexities of recovery and rehabilitation will be advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from $60,000 to $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience. In addition to competitive pay, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), retirement plans with employer matching, generous paid time off including vacation, personal days, and holidays, as well as opportunities for continuing education and professional development to enhance your skills in social work.
