Job description

The Planner for the Men's Bags category will play an instrumental role in driving the continuous evolution of Tumi's North America Merchandise Planning & Allocation function as we build best-in-class capabilities. The Planner will collaborate with Merchant partners to drive the Men's Bags category, owning financial planning and inventory management while influencing merchandising, pricing, allocation and other business levers. 

Additionally, the Planner will be a driver of process improvement and positive change, including supporting the impending implementation of an AI-enabled integrated assortment and planning system. This is a hybrid position; we work on site 4 days and remotely 1 day weekly.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the creation and management of the Men's Bags financial plan (sales, margin, inventory) from     category to SKU level.
  • Analyzes key data points (historical sales, market trends, seasonality, promotions, sell-thru) to inform forecasts.
  • Integrates assortment, marketing, promotional, and merchandising strategies into the financial plan.
  • Partners with Central Planning and leadership to align financial plans with overall company strategies and goals.
  • Monitors actual performance against the plan and reforecasts regularly, adjusting for trends and key changes.
  • Surfaces implications and opportunities based on performance analysis.
  • Manages Men's Bags inventory, ensuring the appropriate amount is purchased to support the sales plan.
  • Minimizes inventory risk while factoring in store minimums and other constraints.
  • Collaborates with Sourcing and Allocation to ensure inventory is in the right location at the right time.
  • Partners with Wholesale Planning to meet wholesale needs and drive business growth.
  • Monitors inventory position and identifies opportunities to reduce inventory liability and improve turnover.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams to influence key business levers.
  • Plans and executes markdowns and promotional activities in both outlet and full-price channels.
  • Collaborates with Merchandising, Product Management, and other teams on product strategies and assortment.
  • Conducts SKU productivity analyses and applies hindsight to inform future plans.
  • Works with Visual Merchandising, eCommerce, and Marketing teams to shape their strategies.
  • Delivers actionable insights through thorough analysis to support business decision-making.
  • Supports ad hoc projects to drive business performance and enhance the team's capabilities, leveraging best practices from other retailers/companies.
  • Support the implementation of an integrated planning system, by participating in process design sessions, performing analyses, conducting tests, participating in training sessions and providing feedback and support to other users.

We're excited if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 7+ years in retail, including 5+ years as a Merchandise Planner owning a multi-channel category and/or 1+ years in Allocation, particularly in a vertically integrated company selling through Stores, e-commerce, and Wholesale channels
  • Advanced Excel skills, with ability to build new reporting and analytical tools
  • Experience using a modern, integrated planning system (that includes Assortment Planning, Merchandise Financial Planning and Allocation/Replenishment) as a superuser
  • Familiarity with assortment optimization, price optimization and other analytical opportunities, particularly leveraging AI and other advanced analytics
  • Participated in a system implementation, particularly in process/tool design, testing and rollout pilot
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills at all organizational levels, across written, verbal, and presentation formats, with the ability to listen and solve problems. 
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of making recommendations aligned with company vision. 
  • Flexible and adaptive to changing priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated initiative, ownership, and accountability
