Key responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of heavy, specialized, tactical, and utility equipment including front-end loaders, skid steers, dump trucks, tractors, military tactical vehicles, ATVs, snow makers, sweeper trucks, and water trucks.

  • Perform preventative checks, maintenance, and repairs on vehicles and equipment, and maintain road surfaces at the MTC.

  • Support daily operations and maintenance activities to ensure test track surfaces and range environments are properly prepared, maintained, and secured for mobility testing.


Job description

ARTC Heavy Equipment Operator – Seasonal plays a critical role in the daily operations and maintenance for the Mobility Test Complex (MTC) at the Arctic Regions Test Center (ARTC) in Delta Junction, Alaska. This position provides essential on-the-ground support to ensure that test track surfaces and range environments are properly prepared, maintained, and secured for military and civilian mobility testing. The ideal candidate is highly adaptable, physically capable, and comfortable operating a wide variety of heavy machinery, specialized support equipment, agricultural machinery, and military equipment in a demanding environment.

Pay Rate: $37.16
Education/Licenses/Certifications/Experience Requirements:
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must have 1 year experience as a heavy equipment operator/mechanic operating and troubleshooting various problems and repairing heavy equipment, including diesel/gas engines, automotive electrical systems, and air/hydraulic systems, OR be a graduate of a recognized trade school with 6 months experience.
Job Skills Requirements:
* Familiar with operation of a variety of heavy, specialized, tactical and utility equipment to include front-end loaders, skid steers, dump trucks, tractors with various utility and agricultural attachments, military tactical vehicles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), snow makers, sweeper trucks, and water trucks.
* Responsible for performing preventative checks and maintenance services before, during and after vehicle/equipment use.
* Maintain various road surfaces at the MTC for customer use.
* Assist in performing regular maintenance and repairs on various vehicles and equipment.
* Very familiar with vehicle/equipment subsystems.
* Demonstrates willingness to properly document time worked, parts requests, system codes and maintenance performed.
* Must be willing to learn how to operate vehicles and equipment that you may not be familiar with.
Physical Requirements:
* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.
* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
* Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including winter temperatures colder than -40°F.
* Must be able to lift 75 lbs. unassisted.
* Must be capable of kneeling, bending and standing while performing maintenance duties.
* Must be able to distinguish colors.
* Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for GFE Maintenance.

* Must be able to work rotating shifts, including day, swing, and night shifts as well as overtime, as needed, sometimes on short notice, to support test missions.
* Must be able to work up to six days per week and 10 hours per day.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
* Maintenance experience with heavy equipment and tractor/trailers.
* Ability to become proficient quickly in the operation of large vehicles and equipment
* Experience with ABS air brakes, dual-voltage electrical systems, Central Tire Inflation Systems, and welding.
* Possess a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
* Military experience.

* Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
* Must be a current TRAX employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
