What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Developer Relations Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Developer Relations Manager, you need a solid background in software development, expertise in API or platform technologies, and often a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with technical tools such as GitHub, documentation platforms, and community management systems is common, along with experience in public speaking or content creation. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills help you engage developer communities and advocate for their needs internally. These capabilities are crucial for building trust, fostering community growth, and ensuring developer success with your products.

How does a Developer Relations Manager typically collaborate with product and engineering teams?

As a Developer Relations Manager, you'll frequently act as a bridge between external developer communities and internal product or engineering teams. You'll relay developer feedback, advocate for user needs, and help prioritize feature requests based on community trends. Collaboration often involves participating in sprint meetings, drafting technical documentation, and co-hosting workshops or webinars with engineers to ensure alignment. This cross-functional teamwork is essential for building trust with both the developer community and internal stakeholders.

What are Developer Relations Managers?

Developer Relations Managers, often called DevRel Managers, are professionals who build and nurture relationships between a company and its developer community. They act as a bridge by advocating for developers' needs within the company and helping external developers understand and effectively use the company's products. Their responsibilities often include organizing events, creating technical content, providing feedback to product teams, and fostering a vibrant developer ecosystem. Ultimately, their goal is to enhance developer satisfaction and engagement, which can drive product adoption and innovation.

Job description

At Rockstar Games, we create world-class entertainment experiences.

Become part of a team working on some of the most rewarding, large-scale creative projects to be found in any entertainment medium - all within an inclusive, highly-motivated environment where you can learn and collaborate with some of the most talented people in the industry.

Rockstar is seeking an experienced Senior Developer Relations Manager to grow our Developer Relations team within Rockstar's Creator Platform, which includes the FiveM and RedM multiplayer modification platforms as well as the Cfx Marketplace.

In this role, you will help define and execute our Developer Relations program and ensure our community of creators has a strong, consistent voice within the organization. If you have a passion for building programs that bridge the gap between developer communities and creator platforms, we want to hear from you.

This is a full-time, in-office position based out of Rockstar's NYC headquarters in Downtown Manhattan.

WHAT WE DO
  • The Rockstar Games Creator Platform Team delivers a technology platform that enables players to experience community-created content on fully customized dedicated servers where creators can develop their own game modes and other modifications in a variety of scripting languages.
  • We provide a curated digital storefront, the Cfx Marketplace, where talented GTAV and RDR2 creators can share and sell custom scripts, assets, and more.
  • We work closely with our worldwide community of players, creators, and server operators to grow our platform, and act as a point of contact between the community and our product and development teams in support of their success on the platform.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Define and execute the overall Developer Relations strategy for the Rockstar Creator Platform.
  • Define, stand up, and manage formal Developer Relations programs, including community engagement and outreach initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen creator engagement and grow the creator ecosystem, attracting new developers and creators to the Creator Platform.
  • Build and maintain relationships with ecosystem creators and server owners, serving as a trusted point of contact and advocate.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Developer Advocacy teams to ensure community feedback is systematically captured and actioned.
  • Monitor and report on community sentiment, ecosystem health, and key developer relations metrics to leadership.
  • Coordinate with the Community Management team to ensure alignment on messaging and community strategy.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 8+ years of professional experience in developer relations, creator success, partner management, or a related field within the technology or video game industries.
  • Experience standing up or maturing developer-/creator-facing programs with identifiable and actionable outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of creator platforms, UGC products, developer tools, marketplaces, digital economies, or live-service game products.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and find practical solutions.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop team members.
  • Ability to translate community insights into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Comfort managing relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, with experience establishing processes and workflows for distributed or cross-functional teams.
PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • Deep familiarity with the FiveM/RedM ecosystem or similar modding and UGC communities.
  • Experience working within a creator platform or two-sided marketplace.
  • Experience scaling developer relations or evangelism from an early stage to a more structured program.
  • Familiarity with UGC ecosystems, game modding, and the broader creator ecosystem.
  • Experience managing or moderating large online communities.
HOW TO APPLY

Please apply with a resume and cover letter demonstrating how you meet the skills above. If we would like to move forward with your application, a Rockstar recruiter will reach out to you to explain next steps and guide you through the process.

Rockstar is committed to creating a work environment that promotes equal opportunity, dignity and respect.
