Job description

Talen Energy is seeking to fill a Sr. Regulatory Policy Manager position to provide handson regulatory and market support for the Company's generation across multiple wholesale markets. This position may be located in any of the following locations: Philadelphia/Allentown, Pennsylvania area - Remote / Hybrid with 50% travel to PJM (Valley Forge).


This role is ideal for a regulatory professional coming from industry operations, or ISO/RTO engagement who enjoys working directly with market rules, and will represent Talen Energy, to be an Advocate for Talen interests in the various Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and states where Talen does business, and before Federal and State regulatory bodies and industry organizations, as necessary. Additionally, this role will provide strategic market and regulatory guidance in support of Talen's on-going business activities, as well as, the development and evaluation of new business opportunities.

How You'll Power the Future

In this role, you will move beyond highlevel policy monitoring and serve as a daytoday regulatory partner to the business, including:

  • Interpret, apply, and operationalize RTO/ISO market rules supporting generation assets, market participation, and commercial strategy across wholesale (and where applicable, retail) markets.

  • Maintain deep working knowledge of RTO tariffs, market design, settlements, and rule mechanics, with emphasis on practical application.

  • Evaluate regulatory and market changes for direct operational, financial, and commercial impact, not just policy implications.

  • Participate directly in RTO stakeholder processes, working groups, task forces, and committees-contributing technical, marketinformed input to support rule changes and market improvements.

  • Advocate for regulatory and market outcomes that protect revenue streams, cost recovery, compliance posture, and operational flexibility, informed by assetlevel and portfoliolevel considerations.

  • Communicate complex regulatory and market topics clearly to Management, Operations, and Commercial leadership, emphasizing implications and decision paths rather than policy theory.

  • Support the regulatory needs associated with Talen development activities, including, but not limited to, identifying the applicable rules and assessing any potential impacts to the project, serving as a liaison to the RTO/ISO and completion of necessary filings and follow-up responses.

  • Act as a resource for Talen's operational and commercial teams to advise on RTO/ISO market rule interpretation, facilitate RTO/ISO communications and coordinate data responses to RTO or other regulatory bodies.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • Demonstrably ability to analyze complex market rules and regulatory issues, identify financial or operational risk, and provide practical recommendations.

  • Strong judgment and comfort operating in commercially sensitive, fastpaced environments.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with operations, trading, commercial, legal, and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four to six years of regulatory experience in electricity and natural gas issues in national or regional arena.

  • M.B.A., M.P.A., or J.D.
