Job description

JOB SUMMARY
SEU's Nursing department is seeking to fill a Nursing Faculty position in the Medical/Surgical specialization in the BSN program. We are seeking passionate nursing educators to empower the next generation of healthcare professionals within a vibrant, Christ-centered academic community that integrates faith with purpose-driven work. The Faculty Nursing position is a full-time, 12-month teaching position requiring a teaching load of 27 hours per academic year. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the faculty member will serve on committees and fulfill additional functions, as assigned by the chief nurse administrator. Teaching will primarily consist of the instruction for the BSN program. However, teaching for the ADN program may also be required. Faculty rank is commensurate with education and level of nursing education experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but is not limited to the following:
  • Classroom and clinical teaching
  • Simulation and lab responsibilities
  • Committee responsibilities, as designated
  • Program development responsibilities that correlate with level of experience
  • Attendance at university functions, faculty meetings and other events, as required
  • Chapel attendance as time permits, in accordance with teaching schedule
  • Student advising after first year of teaching

EDUCATION
Required Education:
Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Education:
Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Required: Unencumbered State FL RN License
EXPERIENCE
Required:
A minimum of 5 years professional nursing experience in the field as an RN is required.
Preferred:
Medical Surgical Experience
Critical Care Experience
A minimum of 2 years nursing education experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:
  • Teaching, Advising, SIM/LAB
  • Medical-surgical and critical care knowledge is required
  • Ability to teach across the curriculum.
  • Personal commitment to teach in a Christian university and be in agreement with the mission of Southeastern University

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Mobility: Ability to walk for extended periods and stand for 8-12 hours.

  • Fine Motor Skills: Hand-eye coordination for handling equipment, such as syringes, computers, and medical devices.
  • Sensory/Smell: Ability to perceive smells (e.g., in clinical safety situations)
  • Environment: Exposure to clinical environments, which may include blood, bodily fluids, and potential needle sticks.
  • Hazards: Ability to work in potentially stressful environments.
  • Scheduling: Must be able to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends, as needed for course instruction.
  • Travel: Ability to travel to various clinical sites

Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, plus Evenings and Weekends as per class schedule
TRAINING
All new hires and employees transferring into a new position will have a 90-day probationary period within which to learn the functions of the job and to be evaluated. Following the probationary period, the employee can transition to regular status, have the probationary period extended in order to receive more training, or employment can be terminated.   • SEU promotes a safe working environment. Employees are responsible for completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently, and supervisors are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Employees must report any unsafe work conditions or practices, as well as any near-miss incidents, to their supervisor and Risk Management.
  • Work-related injuries must be immediately reported to Security and Human Resources. When life or limb are at risk, please dial 911. Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Emergency Employees report for or must remain at work in emergency situations. Dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to this position, unless instructed otherwise by your direct supervisor or a member of the Leadership Team.

SCREENING
All full-time positions at SEU are deemed security-sensitive and require background checks. Employees required to drive their own personal vehicle, a rental car or an SEU vehicle in performance of their duties must pass an MVR records check and meet the requirements of the University's insurance carrier in order to meet the requirements of the position.
