Building Plans Examiner - Alameda, CA

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Building Plans Examiner to join our team of professionals.  This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments.  You’ll be a member of our highly respected team of professionals with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged. 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform comprehensive building plan reviews for code compliance including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy, CALGreen, grading, and accessibility requirements in accordance with California Title 24 and applicable federal, state, and local codes.
  • Review plans, specifications, calculations, and supporting documentation for residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects.
  • Complete initial plan reviews and correction resubmittals within established service turnaround timelines.
  • Prepare clear and detailed written correction notices identifying code deficiencies and required revisions.
  • Review both electronic and paper plan submittals and maintain accurate records within permitting or electronic plan review systems.
  • Coordinate plan approvals by verifying required agency approvals and ensuring plans are properly stamped and signed prior to permit issuance.
  • Compile and transmit approved plans, specifications, and calculations to the jurisdiction for permit issuance through approved electronic or physical delivery methods.
  • Provide technical guidance and clarification to building officials, inspectors, contractors, designers, applicants, and the public regarding plan review comments and code interpretations.
  • Participate in meetings with municipal staff, applicants, and project teams to support project coordination and resolution of plan review issues.
KNOWLEDGE amp; SKILLS:
  • Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology.
  • Strong knowledge of California codes and guidelines
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental agencies, and other clientele.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment.
  • Ability to prepare written plan review correspondence and update information in software programs.
  • Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast paced atmosphere.
  • Stay current with updates to California Building Standards Codes, International Codes, and evolving construction practices.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
EDUCATION amp; EXPERIENCE:
  • ICC Plans Examiner certification required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience performing building plan reviews for residential and/or commercial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying California Building Standards Codes and International Codes within a municipal or consulting environment preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant professional experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record required.
COMPENSATION: $55 - $65 hourly
