Human Resources Generalist - Benefits (Hybrid)

As a Human Resources Generalist, you'll play a vital role in supporting the employees who make our mission possible. With a primary focus on benefits administration, you'll help employees understand and access their benefits, navigate important life and employment changes, and receive knowledgeable, responsive support when questions arise.
You'll also contribute to HR operations through HRIS administration, reporting, unemployment compensation, payroll support, and New Hire Orientation. Location: Ruth Williams House, 2415 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19132
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 9:00 AM-5:00 PM | Eligible for up to 2 hybrid workdays per week after 90 days, based on performance and business needs
Compensation: $71,000-$73,000 annually, based on experience
What You'll Do
Benefits Administration
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including new hire enrollments, qualifying life events, status changes, terminations, and annual open enrollment.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for employees with questions about benefit plans, eligibility, coverage, and enrollment.
  • Partner with benefits vendors and brokers to research and resolve employee issues and escalations.
  • Support ACA reporting, benefits audits, reconciliations, compliance activities, employee communications, and wellness initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate benefit elections and employee information within the HRIS.
Unemployment Compensation
  • Manage unemployment compensation claims and respond to requests within required deadlines.
  • Gather and submit separation records, attendance information, and other supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate and participate in unemployment hearings and appeals as needed.
  • Maintain accurate unemployment records and documentation.
HRIS, Reporting & Payroll Support
  • Maintain HRIS data, process employee changes, and help ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Generate HR reports to support organizational decision-making and workforce needs.
  • Develop strong knowledge of HR systems and serve as a resource for HRIS-related processes.
  • Serve as a backup for biweekly payroll processing.
HR Operations & Employee Support
  • Coordinate and facilitate biweekly New Hire Orientation.
  • Respond to employment verification requests and general employee inquiries.
  • Provide responsive, knowledgeable HR support while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems, service delivery, and the overall employee experience.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience, with a strong focus on benefits administration, HR operations, payroll support, or HRIS administration.
  • Hands-on experience administering employee benefit programs, including enrollments, qualifying life events, benefit changes, and vendor coordination.
  • Experience using Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Microsoft Office Suite, and reporting tools.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and confidential employee information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly explain benefits and HR processes to employees.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Payroll, vendors, brokers, managers, and HR colleagues.
What You May Bring
  • Experience supporting annual open enrollment, ACA reporting, benefits audits, or reconciliations.
  • Experience managing unemployment compensation claims, hearings, or appeals.
  • Experience supporting payroll administration or serving as a payroll backup.
  • Strong HRIS and reporting experience, including creating reports, auditing data, or improving data integrity.
  • Experience working across multiple HR systems and quickly learning new technology.
  • Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or human services.
  • Professional HR or benefits certification, such as PHR, SHRM-CP, CEBS, or similar.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with an interest in improving HR processes and the employee experience.
