Position Overview

Practical Solutions Counseling is seeking a dedicated and flexible Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) to join our remote team, focusing specifically on providing therapeutic services to children with developmental disabilities and intellectual challenges. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work from home while making a meaningful impact in the lives of children and their families throughout Allentown, Pennsylvania, and beyond.

About the Organization

Practical Solutions Counseling is a respected community health clinic committed to delivering comprehensive youth and family support services. We specialize in supporting caregivers of children and teens facing developmental and intellectual disabilities. Our approach is centered on collaboration and tailored therapeutic strategies to empower families and enhance the quality of life for children with exceptional needs.

Work Environment

This remote position allows you the flexibility to work from home, prioritizing your work-life balance while ensuring you meet the needs of our young clients. You will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team that works closely with professionals from various fields, ensuring a holistic approach to therapy. Regular online meetings and scheduled consultations with team members foster a supportive and collaborative work culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual therapy sessions in clients' homes or group therapy sessions at our outpatient center, focusing on tailored treatment interventions.
  • Implement effective strategies for anger management, coping skills, and social skills development, while working to mitigate high-risk behaviors such as self-injurious behavior (SIB) and physical aggression.
  • Facilitate decision-making skills for both youth and their caregivers to help them navigate and manage in-home behavioral challenges.
  • Collaborate consistently with the Child Family Treatment Team and other professionals to align treatment approaches and provide continued support.
  • Complete and submit required documentation, including intake forms, treatment plans, and progress notes, within designated time frames to ensure compliance and track client progress.
  • Participate in monthly team meetings to discuss cases, provide recommendations, and share best practices.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be on children ages 3 to 20 who present with developmental and intellectual disabilities, offering your unique expertise to help these youth and their families overcome challenges. Your bilingual skills in Spanish or Portuguese will enhance our ability to serve a diverse clientele, ensuring that language barriers do not impede access to critical therapeutic services.

Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Counseling, Family Therapy, or a related field is required.
  • Must possess an active and unrestricted Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) license.
  • Availability for at least 5-10 hours per week during after-school hours (4-7 PM), with some flexibility for weekends.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a registered vehicle for home visits are essential.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, is mandatory.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in providing positive behavior support and behavioral interventions is highly desired.
  • Prior work with children and adolescents who have intellectual or developmental disabilities is advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from $60,000 to $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to a competitive pay structure, we offer an attractive benefits package, including:

  • A dynamic and supportive work environment that values professional development.
  • Opportunities for career advancement and ongoing job training to enhance your skills.
  • Comprehensive group health coverage to ensure you and your family can access the care you need.
  • Annual paid time off, so you can recharge and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage to provide peace of mind in unforeseen circumstances.
  • A 401(k) retirement plan to help you plan for your future.
