Job Description TITLE: Mechanical Engineer Comp: $80,000-$100,000 Location: Berne, Indiana Our client is seeking immediate assistance in identifying a candidate for a Mechanical Engineer direct hire position in Berne, Indiana. Responsibilities: Lead the mechanical design of complex automated systems, ranging from single or multi-station assembly applications to full turnkey assembly cells with integrated quality management systems. Manage projects from concept through delivery, including scheduling, cost reviews, and formal design assessments to meet customer timelines and budget expectations.

Partner with the Sales team to define project scope and develop conceptual layouts based on customer RFQs and specifications. Interface directly with customers to ensure equipment solutions meet technical, performance, and quality requirements. Guide and oversee the work of designers and detailers (internal and contract) to ensure successful execution and integration of design concepts.

Collaborate cross-functionally to support cost targets and delivery schedules through clear written and verbal communication. Spend approximately 80-90% of time on design work, with regular time on the production floor to ensure proper build execution and design integrity. Design automated machinery such as piston rod assembly systems incorporating robotics, conveyors, pneumatics, and vision systems.

Required Skills & Qualifications: 2+ years of experience in machine building or automated equipment design environments. Experience using 3D design software; Autodesk Inventor preferred. Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related field required; Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline preferred.

Strong understanding of how pneumatic, hydraulic, robotic, vision, and automated systems integrate mechanically within complex machinery. Experience supporting custom automation or assembly equipment projects is highly desirable. TERMS: This is a direct hire position that pays from $80,000 - $100,000/yr.
