POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is making Maryland\r\ncommunities safer through proactive community supervision of supervised\r\nindividuals utilizing a strategy that focuses on criminogenic needs. This\r\nincludes investigating and reporting, testing and referring supervised\r\nindividuals, identifying and partnering with community resources, informing and\r\nsupporting victims of crime, and collecting ordered monies.\r\n\r\nTo protect the citizens of Maryland by interviewing\r\nsupervised individuals who are:\r\n(1) placed on probation by the courts;\r\n(2) released on parole by the Maryland Parole\r\nCommission;\r\n(3) released from prison on mandatory supervision\r\nrelease; or\r\n(4) on supervision\r\n\r\nThis individual is the first employee from the\r\nDivision of Parole and Probation to interact with these supervised\r\nindividuals who are often angry, confrontational, and resistant to\r\nquestioning. The accuracy and tone of this initial interview are critical to\r\nthe supervision/monitoring process. In the absence of this individual, these\r\nduties are performed by clerical staff, agents, or monitors.\r\n\r\nThe individual in this position must read and\r\nthoroughly explain to supervised individuals all of the general and\r\nspecial conditions of supervision/monitoring; accurately and completely enter\r\nrequired information into the Offender Based State Correctional Information\r\nSystem (OBSCIS II); explain to supervised individuals the\r\nrequirements for reporting to the agent/monitor for the first time; and gather\r\ninformation from a variety of documents and information systems about\r\neach supervised individuals to build a thorough case file for an\r\nagent/monitor to begin supervising/monitoring the case. In some jurisdiction\r\nassessment of supervision level and/or initial referrals for treatment may be\r\ndone. Interview supervised individuals in order to gather necessary\r\ninformation, review rules and conditions, answer questions, and provide\r\nreporting instructions to appropriate agent/office assignment. Input accurate\r\nand complete data in OBSCIS II informational systems in order to timely open\r\noffender cases and livescan/fingerprinting.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience: One year of experience interviewing offenders and processing parole and probation documents. \r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicantswho\r\npossess the following preferred qualification(s).Include clear and\r\nspecific information on your application regardingyour qualifications.\r\n\r\n\r\n1. Experience interviewing supervised individuals\r\n(probation, parole, or similar).\r\n2. Experience where you interacted with individuals\r\nwho were confrontational or resistant.\r\n3. Experience entering case information into criminal\r\njustice or casemanagement systems.\r\n
