Job description

A well-established, privately held company in the pipe and steel products industry is seeking an experienced Controller to join its leadership team.

This is a great opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who understands the financial side of a distribution or inventory-driven business and enjoys being involved in both the day-to-day operation and the bigger picture.

The company is financially stable with a very tenured team and a supportive work environment. The Controller will work closely with ownership and executive management and will have responsibility for accounting, finance, inventory, and several administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting and financial operations, including month-end and year-end close.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, profitability analysis, and other financial reporting.
  • Oversee budgeting, cash flow, forecasting, banking relationships, and borrowing base reporting.
  • Manage inventory accounting, inventory valuation, costing, and inventory controls.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, and cash management.
  • Review customer and vendor credit terms, contracts, and financial agreements.
  • Coordinate annual audits and oversee tax and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiency.
  • Oversee the company's ERP system and coordinate with outside IT resources as needed.
  • Provide oversight of HR, employee benefits, office administration, and related company functions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff of two.
  • Partner with ownership and executive management on financial decisions, business planning, and special projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA is a strong plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including Controller-level responsibility.
  • Experience in the pipe, steel, metal products, wholesale distribution, or a similar inventory-driven industry is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting, costing, financial reporting, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience with SAP or a comparable ERP system.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with the ability to work independently and make sound business decisions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

This is a stable, well-established company with a long-tenured team and a strong reputation in its industry. You'll work closely with experienced leadership and can make a meaningful impact on the company's financial operations and continued growth. The company follows a 9/80 work schedule, giving employees every other Friday off. The company offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits, strong bonus opportunity, and a supportive, team-oriented work environment.
