Job description

Equipment Manager
We're seeking a Equipment Manager to oversee our Jacksonville, FL office. This role is ideal for someone who works independently, embraces challenges with a curious mindset, and is committed to learning and evolving with the industry. The successful candidate will be someone with a strong ability to work with maintenance vendors and develop driver relationships. This role is accountable for all maintenance issues relating to truck and trailer equipment. Most importantly, this role is responsible for servicing our drivers by having equipment that is ready to haul freight.
Some roles that would have transferable skills could be experience as a: Purchasing Manager, Transportation Planner or Coordinator, Transportation professional, Experience in high velocity jobs, manager of mechanics or service advisors and writers.
As an Equipment Manager, you will:
  • Scheduling of preventative maintenance service for tractors and trailers.
  • Interface with maintenance vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs.
  • Manage emergency breakdowns with vendors and drivers for both tractor and trailer.
  • Maintain a log of all equipment repairs and communicate with the corporate office.
  • Dispose of assets at the end of asset life.
  • Oversee the operation, installation, and upgrades to In-Cab Communication Devices.
  • Interact with operations on a daily basis with known issues/concerns.
  • Interactive with drivers in the yard
  • Manage repair invoices for discrepancies, accuracy and legitimacy.
  • Manage local vendor relationships with integrity.

The candidate must be a team player yet be able to work independently, have problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and have organizational and analytical skills. Must be proficient in analyzing and solving problems plus be able to multitask and manage critical situations effectively. High-stress tolerance is also critical. This is a very active job where multiple trips will be made from the office to the yard. This can include carrying up to 50lbs up or down the stairs to your office.

  • Decisiveness: Have the ability to put things into perspective, weigh all your options, assess all relevant information and anticipate the consequences, good and bad. Have the ability to know who can help you reach a solution.
  • Communication: Ability to adjust your tone/style according to your audience, ability to explain complex issues both internally and externally.
  • Time Management: Have the ability to manage your time to efficiently prioritize tasks while adopting an attitude to take on new tasks and deadlines.
  • Self-Motivation: Having a positive attitude and the initiative to work without constant supervision.
  • Teamwork: working for our common goal, know when to be a leader and when to be a listener. Ability to be perceptive along with receptive to others needs and responsibilities.
  • Conflict Resolution: Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish a rapport with others, know how to be persuasive with the ability to stay calm.
  • Computer Expertise: Must be proficient in Microsoft software; Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Education and experience requirements:
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Two years of experience in Transportation working with maintenance/equipment and recruiting
