Job description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Residential Support Staff member is responsible for providing high-quality care, supervision, and support to residents while maintaining a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment.

  • Administer and/or dispense medications as prescribed by a physician, including injectable medications, and accurately document administration in accordance with policy.
  • Monitor residents for changes in mood, behavior, or physical condition and promptly report concerns to the Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or Resident Care Coordinator.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, bathing, and self-care needs.
  • Provide ongoing resident supervision, oversight, and supportive engagement to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Take and document routine vital signs and blood glucose readings as required.
  • Conduct regular resident safety checks and accurately document findings in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free environment through active participation and role modeling.
  • Clean and maintain resident rooms, bathrooms, and common areas, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
  • Assist residents with laundry, bed-making, and room organization.
  • Ensure resident and staff areas are adequately stocked with supplies and complete weekly inventory of program materials.
  • Provide assistance in the event of a resident fall, including safely lifting or transferring residents using appropriate techniques and equipment (e.g., gait belts).
  • Prepare, administer, and serve nutritious meals in accordance with resident dietary needs; ensure proper cleanup of food preparation and dining areas.
  • Respond to phone calls in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Coordinate and order laboratory work as needed.
  • Accompany residents to medical appointments when required.
  • Admit, greet, and escort guests to the Mary Ryder Home in a professional and welcoming manner.

Work Conditions and Environment
  • Position is based at the Mary Ryder Home, located at 4361 Olive Street, St. Louis, MO.
  • Full-time schedule consists of 32-40 hours per week and includes evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Current shift opening: 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM.
  • Position may require working independently during overnight shifts.
  • Compensation includes:
    • Shift differentials for evening and overnight shifts
    • Overtime pay at 1.5x the regular rate
    • Holiday pay at 2x the regular rate
  • Occasional travel to other Provident sites may be required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, including assisting residents from floor to standing using proper equipment and techniques.
  • Requires the ability to perform repetitive physical tasks such as bending, standing, sweeping, and lifting.
  • Must be able to independently navigate the facility and work areas safely.
