Job description

CAPAA Musical Theatre Instructor - Drama 

This position is the key instruction role for the Musical Theatre track at Oldham County's Creative And Performing Arts Academy. The class includes an exploration or Acting and Drama. The teacher will teach monologues group pieces and include opportunities for students to perform ensemble showcases. Candidates must have strong executive functioning skills, excellent classroom management, experience with high school students, and must have the ability to teach all levels of drama. The ability to dramatic history is a plus. Faculty who will be most successful at CAPAA are individuals who are dedicated to student success. They are looking for an opportunity to have input into the curriculum and tailor their courses beyond the basic state requirements. They see themselves as professionals and want to be part of a team that strives to fulfill the mission of the school. They have high standards for themselves and expect the best. They make choices in their classes that invite students to join the learning process. They are nurturing. However, they realize that nurturing often requires understanding and discipline applied equitably and consistently. This position is 5-10 hours a week.

Responsibilities

Classroom and professional duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Embrace and promote the CAPAA vision, mission, educational approach, goals, and core values

  • Support students during studio time, daily lessons, classroom setup, and the like.

  • Structure lessons that encourage and foster skill development, critical thinking, applications, and ethics.

  • Instruct  courses serving students with various learning styles, abilities and needs.

  • Employ classroom management skills and implement the school code of conduct.

  • Assist in assessing student achievement, skill mastery and career development skills.

  • Work with faculty and department heads to ensure student's overall success at CAPAA.

  • Other responsibilities include attending department and faculty meetings, parent conferences and open houses; regular communication with parents and administrators; and occasional supervisory duties.

Requirements

Must enjoy working with teenagers.

Bachelor's degree 

Demonstrated professional specialization in Drama/Acting

Prior experience teaching high school students is strongly preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent curriculum development skills

Excellent classroom management ability
