Job description

Position Overview:
Nelson University, Waxahachie, TX is seeking qualified adjunct instructors to teach science courses within the College of Health Sciences. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the academic formation of students while maintaining flexibility in teaching schedules.
As an adjunct faculty member, you will play an important role in delivering quality instruction in biology, anatomy, chemistry, or health sciences, helping students develop both scientific understanding and critical thinking skills within a supportive Christian higher education environment.
Faculty intentionally provide a curriculum characterized by currency, harmony with Assemblies of God doctrine, and supported by biblical integration across all disciplines.
Responsibilities
Teach assigned undergraduate science courses in accordance with approved syllabi and course learning outcomes
Prepare engaging lectures, laboratories, demonstrations, and learning activities that promote student comprehension and application of scientific concepts
Design and administer assessments that accurately measure student learning and provide meaningful feedback
Submit grades and maintain accurate records in accordance with university policies and deadlines
Support the mission of Nelson University by demonstrating Christian values and integrating faith perspectives into course content where appropriate
Adjunct faculty teach courses as assigned by the Dean. Courses may be scheduled during day or night hours, or Saturdays
Instructors will prepare syllabi in accordance with the institutional model, initiate the process of textbook selection in a timely fashion, oversee quality educational experiences for students, produce evaluations and scores of student performance via the learning management system, and submit final grades per the posted schedule
Adjunct faculty are required to provide 30 minutes of availability per week per course for student consultations (on a select day or attached to a class)
Adjunct faculty members will be issued a copy of the University's Institutional Policy Manual and expected to familiarize themselves with the policies of the University
Adjunct faculty are required to wear professional attire during class and begin and end each class on time
Adjunct faculty are required to carry out instructional and spiritual formation activities with students and staff in accord with University policies and practices
All part time faculty are invited (but not required) to attend department meetings
Adjunct faculty are not required but encouraged to attend the Faculty In-Service meetings. Likewise, adjunct faculty are not required but encouraged to participate in commencement ceremonies
Adjunct faculty are required to connect and communicate with Department Chairs on a regular basis
Qualifications
Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physiology, Medical Sciences, or a related science field from an accredited institution; doctoral degree preferred
At least 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline or a closely-related field required for instruction at the undergraduate level
Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: general biology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, physics, microbiology, or health sciences
Professionals with significant practical experience in scientific or healthcare fields are encouraged to apply
Strong communication skills and ability to engage students effectively in both lecture and laboratory settings
Spirit-empowered, committed follower of Jesus Christ with a mature Christian faith
Committed to the doctrinal and cultural convictions of Nelson University and its parent church, the Assemblies of God
Ability to integrate faith and learning in the classroom and model Christian character
Academic qualifications commensurate with accreditation criteria
Established teaching abilities, strong written and verbal communication skills, and knowledge of subject area
Ability to work harmoniously with faculty, staff, administration, and students
Adaptability to change and innovation
Faculty members report to and are accountable to the Department Chair, College Dean, any local Administrative Dean when serving at an Extension Site, and the Provost for Academics
Documented professional experience
Experience teaching in an online format preferred
Ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds
Commitment to collaboration and program development
Faith Commitment
Personal faith consistent with Nelson University's evangelical Christian mission
Active participation in a local church community; Assemblies of God affiliation preferred
Compensation
Compensation is determined according to established pay scales and is based on credentials and teaching assignments.
