Omaha Taxpayer Assistance Representative (Open)

The Department does NOT sponsor Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Optional Practical Training (OPT) (Form I-983) or non-immigrant work visas for these positions. This position is a 100% "working in office" position.

DOR is seeking a self-motivated individual to join our Omaha office as Taxpayer Assistance Representative.

This individual will learn to assist taxpayers with questions regarding Nebraska regulations, statutes, forms, refunds, and filing requirements. The individual will assist in guiding business or individual accounts that are delinquent in filing returns or paying tax liabilities and/or questions on getting licensed with DOR for a permit. The Representative may also initiate adjustments to tax returns or taxpayer accounts and educate taxpayers regarding tax and regulation compliance. Interaction with the public will take place in person, on the phone, or via written correspondence.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree in business. OR Two years of experience with tax return preparation, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference given to applicants who can read, write, and speak Spanish fluently. Call center experience also a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: processes and procedures for collection; mathematics and accounting; business operations and practices; resources available for researching tax laws, rules and regulations; Excel, Word, Oracle and Outlook.

Skills in: verbal/written communication; negotiation; active listening; emotional intelligence; reading comprehension; time management; critical thinking; data entry; computer use and databases; and customer service.

Ability to: communicate to express clear and concise ideas; utilize interpretive techniques to determine information sought; organize and verify tax data from computer-generated reports; set priorities; relate effectively with people representing a variety of backgrounds; interpret difficult tax programs for taxpayers; determine why a taxpayer is not in compliance and collection procedures; use independent judgment.
