The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Development Officer for the Contemporary Arts Council.  In collaboration with the Assistant Director and the Manager of Affiliate Programs, and the Contemporary Arts Council Leadership, the Development Officer is responsible for the strategic and programmatic planning, management, revenue and membership growth of The Contemporary Arts Council, a dynamic and important donor group at MoMA.

Responsibilities:

• Makes, executes and exercises independent judgment about management policies as it pertains to the Contemporary Arts Council (CAC), an important group of approximately 200 donors who support MoMA’s exhibitions, acquisitions, and study of contemporary art. CAC members are primarily collectors and art enthusiasts who are deeply committed to the mission of MoMA and the CAC. Develops and executes all aspects of strategy, mission, fundraising, event production, and marketing.
• Manages the relationship between the CAC Members and Officers Committee and MoMA staff. Internally, represents the CAC among the Museum's curatorial staff and departments of Membership, Individual Philanthropy, and Institutional Giving. Additionally, responsible for representing the CAC to external constituents, including other museums, galleries, artists, and other members of the art world.
• Meets and exceeds annual revenue goals and grows CAC membership numbers through innovative and active recruitment, stewardship, and retention efforts. Oversees membership application and renewal processes.
• Executes and manages the annual CAC budget, revenue and expenses in collaboration and in adherence with the Finance, Accounting, and Gift Processing teams. Creates and processes invoices. Creates accurate and effective financial reports.
• Independently plans and executes three to four Officers Committee and two Nominating Committee meetings annually as well as an annual meeting of the Fund for Contemporary Art; responsible for diplomatically and thoughtfully leading meetings that align with governance best practices.
• Responsible for meeting and exceeding goals around three major CAC endowments, which provide crucial support to the Museum, as well as tracking and stewarding their grants.
• Independently and proactively maintains knowledge about Museum programs, events, and content and ensures that two to three CAC events per month are consistently aligning with and reinforcing the Museum’s priorities and fundraising objectives.
• Responsible for designing and executing an exciting annual calendar of CAC events with organizational aplomb. Uses data-driven planning and results to inform overall CAC program and internal reporting.
• Independently creates, produces, and hosts all CAC events throughout the year; oversees all details including invitations, production, catering, security, budgeting; and follow-up.
• Maintains membership database, confidential donor files, and other departmental records with discretion and efficiency.
• Identifies members with capacity and interest to grow their involvement with MoMA and crafts bespoke pipeline plans.
• Responsible for independently executing the communications strategy for the group, including invitation mailings, weekly newsletters, annual giving renewals, donation acknowledgements, etc.
• Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above. 

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree and five or more years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, membership, client development, or equivalent.
• Excellent relational management, written and interpersonal communication and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Experience proactively and effectively communicating with customers, donors, or members with maturity and confidentiality.
• A passion for working directly with people and effectively and gracefully managing a high volume of diverse constituents.
• Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment, independently manage multiple projects at once, and deliver deadlines on time.
• Interest in and knowledge of contemporary art, museums, and the cultural ecosystem of New York City and the global art world.
• Proficiency in MS Office and Google workspace. Experience with customer management systems, Salesforce a plus.
• Interest and capability to manage budgets and generate reports from financial and other data.
• On-site presence is required four days per week, subject to change at management’s discretion, with the understanding that some weeks on-site presence five days a week will be required. Must also be available to work some early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Key relationships: External Affairs, Director’s Office, Curatorial Departments, General Counsel, Retail, Security and Visitor Engagement.

Reports to: Manager, Affiliate Programs 

Salary range:   Minimum of $72,000 (gross) to a maximum of $85,000 (gross) per annum
