Job Title: Business Analyst / Product Owner Banking (Small Business Focus)
Location: Newport News, VA (Hybrid)
About the Role:
We are seeking a Business Analyst / Product Owner with deep experience in credit union/Banking operations, small business banking, and technology driven product delivery. This role is ideal for someone who understands the unique regulatory, operational, and member service expectations of U.S. credit unions and can translate them into scalable digital products, process improvements, and business solutions.
You will work closely with lending teams, digital banking, core systems, compliance, and member experience groups to build and enhance products that support small business members, including lending, treasury services, onboarding, and relationship management.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Product Strategy - Define and own the product roadmap for small business focused solutions across lending, onboarding, servicing, and digital channels.
  • Requirements Gathering - Conduct detailed business analysis, process mapping, and requirements documentation aligned with credit union policies and NCUA guidelines.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration - Partner with lending officers, branch leadership, underwriting, compliance, and IT to ensure product alignment with member needs and operational realities.
  • Backlog Ownership - Prioritize features, enhancements, and defects based on business value, risk, and member impact.
  • Process Optimization - Identify gaps in current small business workflows (loan origination, KYC, onboarding, servicing) and propose automation or system improvements.
  • Vendor & Core Integration - Work with third party fintech partners, LOS providers, and core banking systems (Symitar, Fiserv, FIS, etc.) to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Data & Reporting - Analyze product performance, member usage, and operational KPIs to drive continuous improvement.
  • Compliance Alignment - Ensure all product changes meet regulatory, risk, and audit requirements.
  • Member Experience Design - Champion a frictionless, digital first experience for small business members.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3 7 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Product Owner, or Product Manager in a credit union or community banking environment.
  • Strong understanding of small business lending, including underwriting workflows, SBA processes, and portfolio servicing.
  • Hands on experience with credit union core systems, LOS platforms, digital banking, or fintech integrations.
  • Ability to translate business needs into user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows.
  • Familiarity with NCUA regulations, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence cross functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with SBA 7(a), 504, micro business lending, or treasury/cash management products.
  • Background in member centric product design or CX optimization.
  • Knowledge of API integrations, vendor management, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Certifications such as CSPO, CBAP, PMI ACP, or similar.
