Working closely with carriers, operations teams, and customers, you'll help ensure freight moves safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively across our network.
This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and relationship-focused professional who enjoys negotiating, problem-solving, and working in a fast-paced logistics environment.
What you'll do:

  • Build knowledge of regional truck capacity and market conditions to identify transportation solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Negotiate competitive rates while balancing customer needs, carrier partnerships, and business objectives.
  • Utilize internal and external tools to evaluate carriers, support procurement decisions, and manage daily operational activities.

Load Coverage & Shipment Execution
  • Identify available loads, secure carrier capacity, and coordinate the successful execution of over-the-road shipments.
  • Manage load bookings and communicate service expectations to carriers to ensure successful delivery performance.
  • Collaborate with colleagues regarding capacity, market conditions, pricing, and load coverage strategies.
  • Manage shipment exceptions, delays, and service challenges while providing timely updates to carriers, internal teams, and customers.
  • Resolve distressed load situations with minimal supervision and a focus on customer satisfaction.

Financial & Operational Support
  • Negotiate and coordinate approvals for accessorial services to support accurate customer billing and carrier payment.
  • Review and authorize accessorial charges, invoice discrepancies, and loss claims.
  • Maintain accurate transportation and carrier information within Matson's transportation management system (TMS).
  • Investigate and resolve carrier billing discrepancies to support accurate financial processing and operational performance.

Professional Responsibilities & Safety
  • Comply with all company rules, policies, and procedures while maintaining a safe work environment by following all safety standards and regulations.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required to support customer requirements and company goals.

You have these skills:
  • Ability to negotiate effectively and build strong carrier partnerships.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage seasonally heavy workloads.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Collaborative approach and commitment to teamwork.

And these qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or comparable business software.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including professional phone and customer interaction skills.
  • Excellent decision-making, prioritization, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing customer requirements and market conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage transaction data accurately within business systems.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining professional standards.

Extra credit if you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Business, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • One or more years of logistics experience within a non-asset-based 3PL environment preferred.

At Matson Logistics, we're looking for people to build a unified team to maintain our values of trust, integrity, and reliability. We welcome people who think rigorously and thoughtfully challenge assumptions.
