Job Title: Maintenance EngineerJob Description

The Maintenance Engineer ensures the reliability, performance, and safety of production equipment and facility systems in a manufacturing environment. This role supports day-to-day maintenance operations and long-term improvement initiatives by performing troubleshooting, planning and executing preventive and predictive maintenance, and supporting capital equipment projects. The Maintenance Engineer helps maximize equipment uptime, improve manufacturing processes, and maintain compliance with safety and quality standards across the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the reliability, performance, and safety of production equipment and facility systems across the manufacturing plant.
  • Support daily maintenance operations by diagnosing issues, troubleshooting equipment problems, and performing timely repairs.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Support capital equipment projects by providing technical input, assisting with installation, and helping to commission new machinery and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automation equipment to restore optimal functionality.
  • Use electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals to identify faults and implement effective solutions.
  • Perform PLC troubleshooting to identify control system issues and support the maintenance of automated production lines.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document work orders, track maintenance activities, and maintain accurate equipment histories.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Maintain compliance with safety and quality standards by following established procedures and supporting a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to minimize downtime and ensure efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Support both first and second shift operations as needed within a 2-2-3 schedule to provide consistent maintenance coverage.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2–5 years of maintenance engineering or industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including rotating equipment, drives, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including industrial power distribution and control circuits.
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatic systems used in industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing production equipment in an industrial setting.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and maintenance repair on industrial machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), such as MP2 or Maintenance Connection.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation and control systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a production environment with a focus on equipment uptime and safety.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with a variety of industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to predictive maintenance practices and reliability-focused maintenance strategies.
  • Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical aspects of automated production systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and engineering.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation when recording maintenance activities in a CMMS.
  • Willingness to work on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule on first or second shift as required.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing facility that maintains a fairly clean environment overall, with certain areas such as mixing rooms where fumes can be strong and appropriate safety precautions are required. Maintenance Engineers support operations on structured 2-2-3 schedules across first shift (7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.) and second shift (7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.), providing continuous coverage for production equipment and facility systems. The work involves hands-on interaction with industrial mechanical and electrical equipment, automation systems, and the use of tools, schematics, and CMMS software in a production setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr.
