Job SummaryTo support the instruction and care of children while ensuring sufficient adult supervision. In the Teacher's absence, the Teacher Assistant/Substitute Teacher is expected to assume the role of the acting teacher.
Responsibilities:Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and the designated Teacher(s), the Teacher Assistant/Substitute Teacher supports instructional activities and engages with groups of children by following established lesson plans. This role also involves assisting in the assessment and documentation of children's developmental progress.
- Collaborates in group instruction and activities by preparing materials, demonstrating tasks, supervising play, assisting with meal service and nap routines, and fulfilling other assigned responsibilities with minimal oversight.
- Creates a nurturing learning environment that promotes the social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development of children, tailored to their respective age and developmental stages.
- Takes all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of children, maintaining constant supervision.
- Assumes the teaching responsibilities in the absence of the primary Teacher.
- Assists in recording attendance and ensuring continuous supervision of children as directed.
- Supports children during snack and meal times.
- Introduces and facilitates arts, crafts, songs, and games for children.
- Aids the Teacher in maintaining an organized environment both indoors and outdoors.
- Collaborates with the Teacher in preparing weekly lesson plans, educational materials, and equipment.
- Participates in individual and group activities.
- Provides the Teacher with evaluations and observations regarding each child's progress and development.
- Supervises the classroom when the Teacher is present but temporarily away.
- Attends staff meetings, conferences, workshops, in-service training, and parental meetings as assigned.
- Maintains a clean and professional appearance that serves as a role model for the children, adhering to dressed codes including the provided uniform or apron.
- Engages in any additional activities necessary for the effective implementation of the MAOF Child Care & Development Program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements: - High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A valid Associate Teacher permit issued by the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is mandatory.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience working with preschool-aged children is required.
- Certification in Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid is necessary.
- Strong skills in both oral and written communication are essential, including the ability to produce clear and concise reports, and to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Candidates must be in good physical and mental health, with successful completion of a pre-employment physical and a negative Tuberculosis test or chest x-ray.
- A positive attitude and a genuine desire to support the well-being of children and their families are essential.
- Awareness and sensitivity to the needs of the program and its children are crucial.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural groups is required.
- Confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
- Candidates must have a personal vehicle available at all times, a valid California Driver's License, and appropriate automobile insurance coverage.
- Live Scan fingerprint clearance must be maintained throughout employment; revocation of fingerprint clearance may result in immediate termination.
- Regular attendance is required, Monday through Friday, in accordance with the schedule provided by the site supervisor.
