POSITION:Custodian
PROGRAM: MAOF Head Start/Early Head Start Program
SALARY: $19.25 - $21.97 Per Hour
REPORTS TO:Facilities Coordinator, Area Supervisor and/or Designee
FLSA STATUS:Non-Exempt, Part-Time
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Facilities Coordinator, Area Supervisor and/or designee, following established MAOF procedures maintains the MAOF Head Start/Early Head Start Program center facility, office, facility grounds, equipment, and storage rooms in good repair, order and cleanliness.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general guidance of the Area Supervisor/Facilities Coordinator, and/or Designee, Custodial Supervisor and the direction of the Center Head Teacher, following the established MAOF Head Start procedures, utilizes and devises methods and procedures to ensure the proper care and maintenance of the MAOF Head Start/Early Head Start facilities and equipment.
The Custodian's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, wax, and otherwise maintain center and office floors.
- Clean and disinfect facilities, including restrooms, utility rooms, storage areas, garages, windows, walls, doors, and outdoor play areas.
- Restock paper and hygiene supplies and empty trash and recycling containers daily.
- Water outdoor plants and help maintain exterior areas.
- Load and unload deliveries of food, supplies, and equipment.
- Organize storage areas and rotate food and supply inventory so older items are used first.
- Set up furniture and equipment for classrooms, meetings, and events.
- Perform minor equipment, building, and plumbing repairs and report larger repair needs.
- Secure doors and gates at the end of the day and whenever leaving the facility outside regular operating hours.
- Maintain janitorial supply inventory and submit supply requests as needed.
- Complete required Health and Safety checklists and report concerns or needed repairs.
- Provide custodial support at other MAOF centers or facilities as assigned.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attend required meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the safe and efficient operation of MAOF's Head Start/Early Head Start Program.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years old and able to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience.
- bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid California driver's license, and current automobile insurance.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and tuberculosis screening.
- Must provide proof of required immunizations, including influenza, pertussis, and measles, and maintain required updates.
- Must complete fingerprinting and obtain and maintain all required FBI, DOJ, CACI, Live Scan, and background clearances.
USE OF EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES
Custodial staff may use equipment, tools, machinery, and vehicles that are necessary to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming early childhood learning environment. Because these items are valuable and essential to daily operations, employees are expected to use MAOF property responsibly, follow all operating instructions, and comply with applicable safety standards and procedures.
Employees must promptly notify their supervisor if any equipment, tools, machinery, or vehicles appear damaged, defective, unsafe, or in need of maintenance. Timely reporting helps prevent further damage and reduces the risk of injury to employees, children, and visitors. Employees should contact their supervisor with any questions regarding the proper care, maintenance, or safe operation of assigned equipment or vehicles.
Improper, careless, negligent, or unsafe use of equipment or vehicles, including avoidable traffic or parking violations, may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described below represent those required to successfully perform the essential duties of the Custodian position.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, perform repetitive movements, and use their hands to handle or operate objects, tools, machinery, and equipment. The employee must also be able to communicate effectively with others. The position may occasionally require sitting and reaching with the hands and arms.
The employee must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds. Required vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The position may also require the safe operation of an agency or personal vehicle when assigned
