Description The Linn County Recorder's Office is seeking a Deputy Recorder. In compliance with the Code of Iowa, this position supervises employees, processes payroll and claims, assists with personnel matters, participates in long-range planning, coordinates staff training, uses and implements new technology as needed, demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft products, contributes to budget planning, and carries out related administrative duties and any additional work as assigned. This includes, but is not limited to, Real Estate, DNR, Passport, and Vital Records processes within the Linn County Recorder's Office.
This position is appointed by the Linn County Recorder. Salary: $84,423.73 Essential Functions Supervises and evaluates staff work in daily operations by rotating through work areas, provides advice when questions arise, and handles escalated situations. Performs basic math and accounting skills to process real estate transactions, reconcile accounts, deposit monies, daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly balancing, budget preparation, processing claims and payroll
Prepares monthly reports for the Department of Revenue and Finance, Iowa Land Records, DNR, and Vital Records. Consults with the Recorder about strategic planning and personnel matters. Trains staff and identifies additional training needs, coordinates staff training, and attends trainings, conferences, and seminars.
Resolves problems that may arise; answers questions and provide information to various governmental agencies, government officials, attorneys, and members of the public. Adheres to Iowa Code sections involving the recording of legal instruments and documents and Administrative Rules of various state agencies, as well as monitor legislative proposals and changes. Follows labor laws, American Disabilities Act, and any other laws and policies.
Demonstrates computer skills, database and indexing knowledge, and imaging systems used by the Recorder's Office. Performs duties of a Recording Specialist as needed. Provides back-up for the County Recorder.
Adheres to Linn County's Mission, Vision, and Core Values. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required.
One (1) year of specialized training in accounting and/or real estate required. Three (3) years of experience in a related field working with accounting policies, procedures, and leadership preferred. Experience working with a county or governmental body preferred.
