We are seeking a hands-on leader with a strong background in ocean freight forwarding who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about developing people, improving processes, and delivering exceptional customer service.
What You'll DoAs the Ocean Import & Export Operations Supervisor, you will oversee the daily operations of our Ocean Import/Export department while leading a team of experienced professionals. Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead, mentor, and develop Team Leaders and operational staff to ensure exceptional performance and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee daily ocean import/export operations, including customs clearance, documentation, cargo movement, and shipment execution.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs, FMC, DOT, TSA, and all applicable trade and transportation regulations.
- Manage customer escalations, shipment delays, claims, service issues, and operational exceptions with professionalism and urgency.
- Monitor staffing, workloads, productivity, and departmental KPIs to ensure operational efficiency and service excellence.
- Improve operational workflows, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and identify opportunities to increase productivity and profitability.
- Support new customer implementations, account retention, and business growth initiatives.
- Conduct employee coaching, training, performance evaluations, and career development planning.
- Collaborate with customers, overseas offices, carriers, customs brokers, warehouses, truckers, and internal departments to ensure seamless operations.
- Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and strategic operational planning.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment focused on continuous improvement.
- Minimum 3+ years of Recent Ocean Import/ Export experience within a freight forwarding environment.
- Previous experience as a Team Lead, Lead Agent, Supervisor, or similar leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of ocean import/export operations, customs clearance, shipping documentation, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven ability to lead teams, prioritize workloads, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional customer service and relationship-building abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional logistics or supply chain education is a plus.
- Starting salary of $85,000+, based on experience.
