Job description

About the Role:

The Buyer I position at Kalmbach Feeds is an engaging position that allows an individual to have a real impact on the company’s bottom line. The position is in the corporate office and will require interface between Nutrition, Sales, Marketing, Purchasing and Production. A qualified candidate will have supply chain management and strategic sourcing skills. The selected individual will have the unique opportunity of identifying new suppliers, new sources, and new ingredients based upon nutritional needs and opportunities that arise. Agricultural markets change every day and the individual will need to strategically reposition themselves in response to those market changes. Managing and maintaining supplier relationships and responding to customer’s needs will be essential tasks.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Demand Forecasting of ingredient and raw material needs
  • Merchandising various commodities and taking positions
  • Writing contracts that put our company in favorable positions versus competitors and the marketplace
  • Sourcing new product suppliers and origins
  • Complete market and competitor research and analysis
  • Scheduling deliveries
  • Pursuing freight savings by creating competition and finding new haulers
  • Filling customer orders by coordinating direct ship loads
  • Unique supply chain problem solving
  • Resolve purchasing problems with vendors, suppliers, and programs, including defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.

The Right Candidate:

  • High level of detail to accurately process documents and write contracts related to the purchase and sale of commodities
  • Demonstrate exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Thrive in fast pace, ever-changing environment
  • Proficient in Windows based software programs, especially Excel
  • Team oriented to support procurement, nutrition, and sales in sourcing product.
