Job Description

The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment seeks to fill an opening for a full-time dietitian to work in the Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC). The responsibilities of this position include performing professional public health nutrition services through direct contact and group education. This position is located at the Johnson County Health Services Building located at 11875 S. Sunset Drive, Olathe, KS 66061.

This position will remain open until filled with first review of applications on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Duties include:

  • Conducts WIC client certifications by assessing nutritional needs and evaluating anthropometric and biochemical data. Develops individualized healthy food plans that consider social, economic, cultural, and other factors, and connects clients with appropriate community, clinical, and health resources.
  • Provides nutrition counseling to high-risk clients and coordinates nutrition care based on the needs identified by the client, family, and healthcare team.
  • Maintains current knowledge of nutrition practices and advancements by participating in training, continuous improvement initiatives, and professional development opportunities. Stays informed of federal, state, and local WIC policies and requirements.
  • Records, collects, and compiles program data to measure outcomes and evaluate program effectiveness. Responds to questions and participates in quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provides nutrition education and counseling to individuals, families, and groups in both clinic and community settings, including outreach activities.
  • Occasionally travels to other WIC locations to provide coverage and performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Nutrition, Dietetics, or relevant field and licensure as a Registered Dietitian are required.
  • Commission on Dietetic Registration (RD) is required.
  • Licensure as a Dietician in the State of Kansas is required within six (6) months of employment.
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is also required.

Preferred requirements include:

  • Master's degree in Food Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Clinical Nutrition, or relevant field are preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience as a dietitian is preferred.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.

Following a conditional offer of employment and prior to hire, the employee must complete a Tuberculosis (TB) test. Within sixty (60) days of hire, employee must produce proof of immunization, proof of immunity, proof that immunization is medically contraindicated, submit a written objection to immunization based upon a sincerely held religious belief, or receive vaccination for the following: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR); Tetanus Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis (TDAP); and Varicella (Chickenpox).
