Summary

This position is responsible for Plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical/electronic equipment, as well as other associated equipment.  The individual in this position must be capable of troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, programming, documenting, upgrading, and the laying out and installing of equipment and systems. 

This position will ensure that the Plant instrumentation and control systems operate at optimum levels, and that new programs and/or changes to existing programs are successfully implemented with minimal direction and supervision.     

The individual in this position will accomplish these tasks by utilizing a team concept, through working with team members and following direction and instructions from a Team Leader, Supervisor, Shift Manager or other qualified maintenance department personnel.  Work relationships and communication are key ingredients to the success of the individual holding this position.

Key Responsibilities

• The individual in this position must possess a working knowledge of electricity, electronics, instrumentation, and control systems.  In addition, he/she must perform electronic, electrical, instrumentation and control systems, which includes installations, calibrations, maintenance, documentation, and repairs.  The knowledge of this position is equipment specific and assists in avoiding unnecessary process interruptions or downtime.
• This individual must have a working knowledge of safe work practices, plant equipment, trouble shooting and repair procedures, and equipment installation under the supervision of the Maintenance Team Leader, Maintenance Supervisors, and other members of management. Technician will ensure production equipment is properly configured and set to desired controls to assist with meeting desired operational efficiencies and goals.
• The area of work includes inside the facility and outside, depending on work requirements.  Weekend and overtime work in this position is common and may be required to meet operational goals.  This position requires the ability to work in extreme environments of both hot and cold.

Typical Education

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

• 3- 5 years of instrumentation/electronic/electrical relevant experience. Graduation from a technical trade and/or completion of an apprenticeship, certificate or associate degree program in a related field.
• Experience programming and/or PLC operations preferred.
• Must have successfully completed the Job Skill Evaluation to begin training in the position.  Must complete the Structured Job Training program within recommended timeframe to remain in the position permanently.
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ranges, averages, fractions, measurements and calculate percentages to make proper adjustments and calibrations, as required.

• Must be able to read, understand, and communicate in English in a manner to successfully complete job duties.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to demonstrate manual and physical dexterity.
• Must be able to work with hazardous and corrosive chemicals in small areas.
• Must be able to tell time and be able to convert regular time to military time.
• Must be able to use a computer and successfully navigate through various applications. Must be proficient at computer system data entry.
• Must be able to maneuver in close quarters and climb stairs, ladders, and catwalks on a regular basis.
• Must be able to stand on concrete floors for long periods of time.
• Must be able to work in extreme environments (cold, hot, humid and slippery).
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to identify hazards and report to appropriate personnel.
• Must have an acceptable attendance record and safety record.
• Must be able to work in stressful situations.
• Must be able to read and interpret written instructions, manufacturers' manuals, material safety data sheets and engineering drawings.  
• Must be able to use written logbooks, plant computer system, and maintenance work order and supply system. 
• Must be able to use personal protective equipment, such as safety harness, eyeglasses, hardhat, and gloves.
