Job Title: Part-Time Transportation Assistant

Location: North Liberty, Iowa

Exemption Status: Hourly, Non- Exempt

Schedule: Minimum of five, 24 hour call shifts, including four weekend shifts (Fri, Sat, Sun) and holidays

Position Summary: 

Responsible for transporting decedents, organs, specimens, personnel, and equipment throughout the donation process.

Essential Functions and Performance Responsibilities:
  • Transport decedents from Iowa Donor Network (IDN) facilities to designated funeral home establishments according to IDN policies and procedures.
  • Transport organs, specimens, and supplies according to IDN policies and procedures.
  • Transport IDN staff and transplant surgeons to various locations according to IDN policies and procedures.
Position Qualifications and Education Requirements: 

High school diploma or GED equivalent required. A valid driver’s license and safe driving record are required. Previous professional driving experience preferred. 

Skills and Abilities:
  • Maintain a current valid driver’s license and be insurable through IDN’s insurance policy.
  • Effectively able to use computers and computer software, including word processing, Internet tools, and electronic mail.
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Receive detailed information through verbal and written communication.
Physical and Technical Requirements:
  • Assist with the physical lifting of deceased donors.
  • Independently maneuver up to 250lb deceased donors on a cot.
  • Lift equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 lbs. 
  • Work a 24-hour on-call schedule, midnight to midnight. 
  • Minimum of five (5) on-call shifts per month, including four (4) weekend shifts. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are considered weekend shifts. Schedule includes holidays.
  • Acknowledge call for work assignment within 10 minutes and arrive at the office within one hour of the call or as assigned. 
  • At peak times, may be requested to assist when not scheduled.
  • May be required to travel up to 12 hours independently or for longer assignments with a team driver. 
  • Safely drive an IDN assigned vehicle and adhere to all relevant traffic laws and regulations.
  • May be required to drive in various weather conditions that may lead to visual and mental fatigue.
  • Use GPS technology to find arrival and departure locations as assigned.
  • Exposure to biohazardous materials such as blood, other body fluids, communicable diseases, and formaldehyde. 
  • Universal precautions and the use of personal protective equipment are required.
