Job Summary - Correctional Health
The Dental Director provides comprehensive dental care services to patients in the Harris County Jail, while also managing administrative responsibilities. This role is approximately 80% clinical and 20% administrative.
Administrative duties include:
  • Leading quality assurance programs
  • Developing, reviewing, and implementing policies and procedures
  • Establishing dental standards of care and clinical protocols
  • Monitoring performance benchmarks and metrics

Clinically, the Dental Director oversees and provides dental care, ensuring safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered treatment while mentoring and supervising dental staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Education / Specialized Training / Licensure:
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) required
  • Advanced training (GPR, AEGD) preferred
  • Licensed by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners
  • Certified Correctional Healthcare Professional (CCHP) certification to be completed within one (1) year if not held at hire

Work Experience:
  • Three (3) years of direct patient care dental services experience

Management / Leadership Experience:
  • Two (2) years of experience overseeing dentists and dental assistants

Communication Skills:
  • Above average verbal communication (heavy public contact)
  • Exceptional verbal (public speaking)
  • Writing / correspondence and reports

Proficiencies:
  • MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Analytical
  • Medical terminology
  • Statistical analysis

Work Schedule:
  • Weekends, Holidays, Flexible, On Call
