The Portfolio Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day ownership, execution, and integrity of data including Books of Record maintenance, comprehensive data reconciliation, an emphasis on correct treatment of private fund manager data, and client reporting with a high degree of independence in support of the Portfolio Accounting & Trading Manager. The role ensures accurate alignment across internal systems, custodians, private investment manager data, and client records by proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies while also overseeing client deliverables, fee calculation processes, and ongoing improvements to data quality, documentation, and operational workflows. In addition, the position provides trained backup coverage for GSIS Cash Desk trading and cash-movement operations to support overall team resilience and continuity. What You'll Do:
Books of Record, Reconciliation & Data Integrity

• Oversee and maintain the Investment Book of Record (IBOR) and Accounting Book of Record (ABOR) for GSIS client accounts, ensuring accuracy across custodial, manager, and internal data sources.
• Own the reconciliation process for investment, accounting, and private-fund data across systems, resolving discrepancies and ensuring the integrity of all portfolio and transaction records.
• Manage and validate data within Addepar, ensuring accurate accounting treatment of transactions, valuations, performance inputs, and exposures, with a focus on consistency between investment and accounting records.
• Support custodial reconciliation and validation processes for GuideStone Funds, including trade activity, cash movements, and NAV verification, identifying exceptions and coordinating resolution to maintain accounting integrity.

Reporting, Private Fund Accounting & Client Service

• Produce monthly accounting, transaction, and performance reporting packages, ensuring accuracy of calculations, proper period recognition, and consistency with underlying books and records.
• Perform detailed review and reconciliation of private fund activity, including capital calls, distributions, income allocations, and valuation updates, ensuring proper accounting recognition and accurate reflection in portfolio records and up-to-date tracking for Unfunded Commitments.
• Assist the Portfolio Accounting & Trading Manager with analyzing Profit and Loss trends in private-fund reporting as data is available that can be presented to the GSIS Valuation Committee.
• For new clients, lead onboarding and reconcile private fund transactions based off client and fund manager records to ensure seamless tracking of unfunded commitments and prior capital activities and valuations.
• Be a trusted accounting resource to clients for help in determining correct GAAP treatment of accounting books.
• Prepare quarterly advisory fee calculations and client billing, ensuring completeness and accuracy of fee inputs, proper reconciliation to accounting records, and clear audit documentation supporting all calculations.

Documentation, Controls, Process Improvement & Operational Support

• Maintain robust documentation of accounting processes, reconciliation procedures, and control activities to support audit readiness, internal controls, and consistent execution across the team.
• Maintain and organize client notices, statements, and records, ensuring accessibility for client-facing and operational teams.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and control environment of accounting and reconciliation workflows, with emphasis on reducing manual intervention and strengthening data integrity.
• Serve as the secondary Authorized Trader for the GSIS Cash Desk, providing trading and cash-movement coverage during planned and unplanned absences of the primary trader executing all required workflows to ensure operational continuity.
• Support system enhancements and data quality initiatives, partnering with the Portfolio Accounting & Trading Manager and other team members to improve the accuracy, consistency, and usability of accounting and reporting data across GSIS systems.
• Utilize Microsoft 365 Copilot to enhance data analysis, reporting, documentation, and workflow automation to improve operational efficiency.

What You'll Need:

• Active membership in a local church congregation and demonstration of desire to follow Christ and live out Christian principles in work and personal life.
• Commitment to the Investment Services team's mission to provide best-in-class investment operations support to internal colleagues and evangelical ministries.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting.
• 5+ years of public accounting, fund accounting or investment accounting experience, including reconciliations and financial reporting support. Experience working in fund accounting, fund administration for private funds, or public accounting (e.g. audit or assurance servicing investment, fund or financial service clients) preferred.
• Basic understanding of performance metrics including Internal Rates of Return, Time-Weighted Return, and multiple of capital (MOIC) calculations.
• Understanding accrual accounting, financial reporting, and investment transaction accounting.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Experience with accounting systems or sub-ledgers; portfolio accounting systems (Addepar or similar) preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills for reconciliation, validation, and analysis, including advanced functions and the ability to manipulate and transform data into usable formats.
• Ability to work across multiple data sources and ensure financial data consistency.
• Strong reconciliation and analytical skills, including variance analysis and root cause identification.
• High attention to detail with a focus on financial accuracy and integrity.
• Strong documentation practices supporting audit readiness and internal controls.
• Ability to manage recurring monthly and quarterly accounting processes.
• Exposure to private fund accounting, fee billing, and custodial reconciliation preferred.
• CPA license required. Interest in pursuing a CIPM or CAIA is a plus.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form, to internal and external stakeholders.
• Critical thinking and foresight to identify potential problems in advance.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities; enforces checks and balances on work products and uses available resources when issues arise.
• Ability to take on complex projects and work independently.
• High level of organization and efficiency; follows established procedures and demonstrates the ability to learn quickly.
